“I barely made it out of my bed this morning,” she shook her head. “I’d say I’d never do this again but I know that would be a lie.” Salomé nodded at his suggestion of breakfast… that is, if she can stomach it. She stood up and followed him, “I hope it helps. I don’t think I can take this for a few more days.”

“Well, I’m happy to see you out, nonetheless,” Cosmo responded with a soft smile. “If you ever feel like you’re gonna do it again, you know you can call me. I’ll be reckless with you or keep you away from trouble. One of the two.” He was surprised that she agreed to go with him and happily lead the way. “Trust, it’ll be good. You don’t gotta eat a lot but at least it’ll take your mind off of things for a bit, right?”

“Chidi from the Good Place or Yamaguchi from Haikyuu. Overthinkers with high anxiety. Kings.”

“Oooh, a music question, my favorite. Let’s see. Past would probably be SLOW DANCING IN THE DARK by Joji. Present is definitely Ain’t It Fun by Paramore. And, if we’re being hopeful about my future, I would go with Golden by Harry Styles.”

“Errr... Luna, most likely. Oh, she’s my cat. Yeah. She hates me but it’s not like she has a choice, right? ... No but then a deserted island would be a terrible place for a cat. Especially Luna. She’s the main character in the house. Uh. Next question.” 

“Yeah, I’m feeling a little under the weather,” she bit her lip. “I’m coming down from a two week long binge… It’s one of the worst hangovers I’ve ever had.”

"Ah,” Cosmo simply said, fixing his hair unconsciously. “I’ve had a couple of those before.... those hangovers, I wouldn’t wish those upon my mortal enemies.” Cosmo stood up. “C’mon, let’s get you a nice carby breakfast. Theres no better cure for a hangover than stacks of buttermilk pancakes.”

“I had to cancel all of my classes today. I bet my students are happy I’m not drilling them at rehearsals for their winter recitals today.” @vestalanding​

“Why did you have to cancel your classes, are you feeling unwell? I mean, granted, I would love a break if you were my instructor,” Cosmo tried to joke. 

     There’s a slight snicker that leaves Giovanni’s lips at Cosmo’s words. “Right. Comfort. That’s the reason you showed up with a dollar store horn headband as a halloween costume. Comfort. Had nothing to do with being dangerously lazy.” He taunted a soft chuckle following his words as he dropped his hands to his side, mask still in hand. “You can’t even call it a costume really, you’re more decorative than decorated y’know? But since you are so comfortable, do you think you could pick a side to go down. Preferably one that leads to the exit. Or the entrance. I’m not picky. As long as we get out of here.”

“Comfort and laziness go hand in hand, Gio,” Cosmo informed with a wiggle of his index finger. “Besides...” Cosmo struck a pose. “Decoration is meant to look good and I am perfect decoration.” He looked down the four hallways that were around the pair, all similar in every possible way. He licked his finger, feigning expertise, and held it up, feeling for any sort of sign. When nothing happened, he turned back to Gio and shook his head. “Got nothing for ya. Aren’t you a space person. Can’t you like read the stars or whatever?”

Shaking her head, the witch shrugged her shoulders. “You’d think that, but there’s a certain kind of pain that comes with being able to conjure what you wish. eventually get gets old and nothing excites you anymore.” Pausing, she sighed. “Except plants, those give me life. Both literally and figuratively.” Looking into the fire, she smiled. “Vampire, huh? Do you bottle the blood True Blood style?”

Cosmo nodded, thinking about the truth behind her words. “I suppose there are pros and cons to everything, even in the most convenient powers. I try to keep a plant alive but my cat either always knocks the pot from the shelf or eats up all the leaves. It’s an impossible feat.” Cosmo laughed at the mental image of a line of energy drinks with A+ blood. “Ah, nothing like that. Though that would be very helpful. There’s this donation system where mortals go and donate their blood for use. Kinda boring but gets the job done.”

“Deal” he said to the other as he poured himself a glass. The punch wouldn’t have any affect on him, as a fairy he was already sworn to tell the truth. Raising his own glass Ethan looked at the other with a smirk, “cheers.”

“This had better be terrible,” Cosmo said after clinking his glass with Ethan’s and downed it all in one go. The taste was not bad. It was delicious even. Fruity but with a nice kick. He waited for a sec, expecting the worst but after a beat or two, he looked at Ethan. “Oh, so it’s like a prank where you pretend something’s gonna happen but nothing happens, right?”

Shaking his head, James lifted the bowl over his head with a smirk. “Try again. Think more juvenile.”

Cosmo tried to reach over for a candy but rolled his eyes at James’s retort. “Fine, fine... Gonna make a grown man say it, huh?” He cupped his hands in front of him and said in a voice a pitch higher than usual, “Treat or trick.”

“Thank you, I appreciate that,” Lysa smile, touching her fingers to his elbow in an affectionate squeeze, before breaking off in a soft laughter. “Like dogs in heat, you mean?” The rivalry between the two species felt more like an inside joke nowadays, but there were times when it hadn’t been that way. “Did you see our dear friend Dracula already? I hear sticking close and watching mortals make eye contact with him is a great pastime.” 

Cosmo pushed his hair back with his finger tips as a response to Lysa’s small squeeze on his elbow. “Absolute beasts,” Cosmo joked. He turned to the partygoers. Even though there were too many people to count, it almost seemed intimate. “Mortals are so cute when they try to avert their gaze. You can see it in their eyes that they so totally want to look at him. I mean, who wouldn’t?”

Ethan laughed with the the other, more due to the fact that this guy actually thought he was going to spill the secrets of the punch just like that. “Come on now, you should know better than that. What fun would it be if I just told you what it did?” He held a glass out to him, “come out, find out for yourself, it won’t hurt you, that much I can say.”

Cosmo, eyebrow raised, stared at the glass filled with a mystery liquid. Hesitantly, he took the glass and was about to drink it before he said, “I’ll drink it if you drink with me.” He immediately regretted saying that.

Hayley smiled, happy that someone was enjoying her party trick. Shrugging her shoulders, she waved her hands again and made fixings for s’mores appear. “I’m not sure if that was a good enough trick to lighten up the evening for you? But if not. I can see if I can conjure an elephant.”

Cosmo widened his mouth in awe and amusement. “Man, maybe being a witch was the way to go,” he joked, as if they had any choice to be what they were. He poked a fluffy marshmallow through the stick and began to roast it. “All vampires are good for is taking care excess blood in a crime scene. At least I don’t have to worry about what I look like in a mirror.”

     Going into the corn maze, Giovanni had had an insane amount of confidence. Convincing himself that somehow his engineering degree would give him an edge in figuring out how to get out. But after passing the same hole in the ground he’d purposefully dug for the fourth time he begrudgingly admitted to himself that he’d gotten them lost. “It’s the damn mask, I’m telling you.” He tried as he pulled the plague doctor mask from his face, and holding it out to look at it. “How can I see anything properly with the nose as long as it is?” He gestured toward it as if that would explain why they had been going in circles.

Cosmo doesn’t know how Giovanni became the leader, perhaps it was laziness in Cosmo’s part.  After Giovanni went on and on about the mask, Cosmo replied, “this is why I kept my costume simple.” He was supposed to be “a devil” but he had just left a business meeting before meeting Giovanni so he put on a headband with devil horns and called it a day. “Comfort over fashion.” Cosmo tried to stifle a laugh.

“Gorgeous, isn’t it?” Lysa mused, stopping besides one her guests with a smile that just barely bared her teeth. In an offer to top up the other’s drink — there were waiters for that, of course, but she didn’t mind — she lifted a bottle of champagne, the pale white feathers of her intricate swan gown reflecting back the light as she moved. “So, which one is your favorite?” She asked, deliberately keeping it vague. Favorite party? Costume? Painting? How she’d have loved to be surprised. 

Cosmo welcomed the alcohol into his almost full cup with a smile that showed his sharp fangs. He felt almost at home at Lysa’s house. “Yours take the cake obviously,” Cosmo said. “The fairy’s was too loud, the witches drinks were almost too carefully made--almost scientific--and well, you know how werewolves can be.”

Making her way through the party, Hayley smirked at the crowd of people, all with colored drinks in their hands. It made her laugh at how easy people fell pray to the tricks of the evening, even more so when she helped with the nonsense. Stopping at a table, she leaned against it and waved her fingers in an attempt to start a small fire to relax next to, watching as it grew to the right size, she smiled. “There we go. Perfect spot to enjoy the evening, don’t you think?”

Finally, a chance to relax, Cosmo thought as he found a quiet section of the party. He was already four drinks in and that usually was the cut off for Cosmo. He felt a nice warmth and turned to the woman next to him. Usually bright lights like this would hurt his vampire eyes but this was welcoming. He held out his drink for a cheers. “Truly a perfect spot indeed. Got anymore fun spells to lightening up the evening?”
