ask me questions about solas / my portrayal bc 1. it’s been a year since i was active on him. 2. i need to get my thoughts on paper ( online w/e ) and 3. some of y’all remember my portrayal from 2014 / 2015 and while he was well developed and i loved it, me looking back at my hc posts were so disorganised compared to me now and im … cringing. i dont wanna reblog them rip.

we’ve talked about this slightly, as i was getting my thoughts down. his agents, as he calls them ( rather than followers, as that refers to the idea of his worship which he despises. ) have always been there, even while he slept and then came back, i’m sure of it. back in the time of arlathan, when he was rebelling against the evanuris, his agents were those who chose to go against what society demanded of them, deciding to stand up and be their own person. they aligned themselves with fen’harel and began to insight rebellion of their own. small acts, though they added up as time went on and his so-called following grew. however, solas directly organising his agents? i think at first, he was very ... agonised, if you will, over the idea of people serving him. perhaps he never really did organise them, never really commanding them. we can attribute this to the facts that solas did what he did to help, rather to expand his power   /   following as a god as well as the idea that solas was more than likely tired of commanding their people. war can do that to someone. either way, both play into my idea of solas more or less ignoring the agents at first until, when some time has passed, he began to utilise them more and more   ;   he truly does have a commander’s mind, a general’s strategy.that shift was perhaps when it became obvious the evanuris were not going to change with his small attempts at rebellion, though it did result in himself being ostracized. that was when he took over. he isn’t a man who forces anyone for anything. his agents do what they do on their own free will and choice   ;   to do otherwise would be exactly what the evanuris do. HE IS ABOVE THEM. he is better them. so while he may gain more control of his agents rather than harboruing an ignorance towards them, he still lets them decide what to do, when to do it, and how. he will simply suggest means of accomplishing them and tasks that may very well be the best option.he does not organise their movements in the traditional sense. like mentioned previously, he suggests tactics. he says ‘’ this route would be safer ‘’ or ‘’ the body can be placed here by so - and - so. ‘’ his agents simply take it upon themselves to do so. this can be blamed on their pride in fen’harel or their commitment to such a cause. it eases solas’ conscious to not command them or order them, yet still play a vital role in their actions as he is the supposed ‘’ battlemaster ‘’ of it all. his agents within the inquisition who report back to him? they do so on their own free will and choice. they hear something he may think prudent and speak it back. THIS IS WHY HE IS VERY CLOSE TO MOST OF THEM. he harbours a deep love and respect for every agent under his guidance. they risk everything for him. he has to make their sacrifice worth it.

in my personal opinion, after talking it out with sam, is that solas was a general in the great war he speaks of during trespasser. he joined the future-evanuris in battle because he believed they had noble intentions. he truly believed in their cause and their purpose. due to this strong faith, solas name himself fen’harel referring to ‘’ noble wolf ‘’ rather than the popular future idea of ‘’ dread wolf. ‘’ solas comments on the title when in the dlc, saying it was ‘’ an insult i took as a badge of pride. ‘’ I SEE THIS AS SOLAS ADMITTING THE NAME IS NOW AN INSULT, whereas at the time it was something to be prideful about. he believed to help the people. he believed arlathan was the end all beauty   ;   the dream come to life due to the efforts within the war. the godhood and worship that came after? merely a side - effect. however ... in time, the others, the evanuris, began to change. their intentions shifted, their attitudes no longer their own. it was as if they were being corrupted from the inside out, the newfound slavery, the demands. solas looked down upon it. he said no, this isn’t right. this wasn’t why we fought. he began to rebel. he began to tell the evanuris that they can’t do this to their people. he ended up growing closer to mythal as, once again explained in trespasser, due to her kindness   /   respect towards her followers. he felt connected in that regard. in the end, he ended up going against the evanuris ( minus mythal ) in the regard of starting to free their slaves, acting on little acts of rebellion, etc, etc. he wanted them to stop, but knew he could only sabotage so much. he began to be looked down upon the others, began to be shoved out of their pantheon. HE WAS STILL A GOD TO THE PEOPLE. he was a god of freedom to the liberated, a god of betrayal   /   deceit to the evanuris. when mythal was killed BRUTALLY, he has enough. we know solas is an angry man, though i’d say he’s simply very emotional over all. anger fuels his actions on more than one occasion within the inquisition. my best example of this is with the quest all new, faded for her, when he begins to deal with the mages, slaughtering them with the inquisitor’s approval. HIS NATURE IS TO BE EXPRESSIVE. he’s wild   ;   truly a wolf in sheep’s clothing. her death causes his anger and sorrow to drive him forward, to become drastic. he seals them away because his emotions told him it was only fair. he didn’t kill them based on his principles. mainly those of ‘’ i won’t stoop to your level of deceit ‘’ and ‘’ now you will have to live with your punishment. ‘’ this last straw was what truly showed him the corruption. he saw how the evanuris truly thought, truly felt. it was time for change. the evanuris weren't good for the people. they never were. he regrets not seeing that sooner.
