i'm not the praying sort, but i'll probably always have a soft spot for the astronaut's prayer
for those who aren't familiar with it, it's a possibly-spurious quote by alan shepard (and is thus sometimes referred to as the shepard's prayer) on the launchpad of Freedom 7, immediately before he became the first american in space. it goes like this:
"Dear Lord, please don't let me fuck up."
it’s what they would have wanted
happy moonwalk day
Things Michael Collins absolutely would have done given the chance.

Maybe you saw the option. Maybe you beheld its breakthrough. Maybe you even felt a doubt or two gnawing as this year crawled on, and nothing more seemed to be heard of this Zine, this (overambitious?) overture to Fullmetal Alchemist's 25th anniversary...
Well, doubt no longer. It's here. It's live. If you've ever put pen to canvas, if you've ever loved the trials and tribulations of the brothers Elric, come help us celebrate 25 years of Shonen Peak by redrawing its entire first volume, page by loving page!
Automail awaits. Colonels await. Maybe even a certain doggy awaits...

You know what's a great word to say? 'Shillelagh'. You know what's a terrible word to say? 'Argablargarog'. But do I ever get to say shillelagh? No, because I'm always saying shit like argablargarog while morphing for my life. That's probably the biggest downside of the war.
You can just say it, though. You don't need to wait for an opportune time, you can just say it. You can even start conversations about it. Ask Ax if it has any fun sounds, that'll let you say it a few times. Waiting for someone else to give you an opportunity to say it sounds like you don't really want to say it.
Shillelagh. Shill-aygh-lee. Why are the E and the AGH in each other's spots? Ask Ax about that!

bouncing off of @an-ruraiocht’s Iliad/Odyssey/Aeneid poll I’m curious about some other ancient Greek and Roman texts
Which of the following Greek or Roman texts would you say you are most familiar with?
The Iliad (Homer)
The Odyssey (Homer)
The Aeneid (Vergil)
Antigone (Sophocles)
Oedipus Rex (Sophocles)
Medea (Euripides)
The Bacchae (Euripides)
Another Greek tragedy (tell me in the tags!)
Metamorphoses (Ovid)
Pharsalia/Bellum Civile (Lucan)
Thebaid (Statius)
Another Greek or Roman epic poem (tell me in the tags!)
hiiii garden update, one of the calendulas bloomed! so hopefully it'll re-seed itself there and we know where it'll be happy again :) I also found out there's a native chia plant so we gotta find some of that to try and grow too. today I tried two kinds of hojicha! what kind of teas do you like?
thats really cool youre really cool <3 happy for your beautiful growing baby named calendula <3 i do love a chia plant i must admit . purple is a very striking color ... <- not sure whats native to you im just going off whats familiar to me ... i love your fancy teas <- all teas are fancy to me . & id love to know the nuances of your different hojicha... me personally i am a SLUT for oolong and jasmine tea . but i quite like green tea too ^_^
:D chia plants do look cool don't they! I didn't know they were in the salvia family at all, now I think I'm recognizing them in people's gardens around town. if I'm right, they smell nice too!
ooh so! we are on a hojicha mission here lmao. we have a leaf hojicha that I like all on its own, and then two powders bought locally, and then a little bit left from when we went to paragon tea house. and we have been searching for something as good as the paragon obsidian, but it's still the best by far!
left is the obsidian, a very dark roast. it immediately smells warm or spicy and it's almost bitter if you taste it dry; if you rub it between your fingers it's extremely fine and almost pearly to the touch. It's delicious lol. Right is the new local find: it's a new batch, so that's nice to know - notes of straw, mostly. Milder taste, when dry, and it's not rough to the touch at all, but unfortunately it is clumpier to mix up, and then it falls out of suspension faster as well, so then I get a grainier mouthfeel: it's not unappetizing, but it's just... not as special, you know?
I did make sure to prepare them both exactly the same way lol. My indomitable foodie spirit says that there just has to be a different way to drink the lighter one, but drat I haven't found it yet! It does need more sweetness to pull out more of its higher flavor notes, but then I don't want it so sweet anyway - I do like to use maple syrup for hojicha sometimes, so that the woodsy flavors all cooperate, but there is a limit. (my other secret recipe is a particular vanilla soymilk; toasty hojicha + a touch of sweet vanilla = mental illusion of chocolate. it's very fun!)
I guess if I really really need to go back to the local shop and try how they fix it up in-house, I can shoulder this burden. for research, for science, of course! ;D
I LOVE an oolong and a jasmine and a green tea :D most recently I had four seasons oolong bc I liked the little bit of vegetal angle on the smell, and then it ended up in an almost honey direction by the end of steeping. and I also got some really good bi luo chun this season, it's just so fragrant and full! tasty tasty world we live in, isn't it ^-^
When he convinced NASA to let him go back it was 1998 & he was 77 & he told a committee that what happens to the body in space is the same as what happens to the body as it ages which means that he had already begun to live the familiar undoing & wanted to sit at the edge of the dark & vast cavern of stars again & he hadn’t been back up there in 36 years & the country swore he couldn’t go back because they needed him to be a politician & a war hero & I wonder what his dreams must have been like in the years between ascension & I’m saying that once you’ve seen the impossible how can you ever stay earthbound for 36 years knowing what’s up there & it is true that none of us will live forever & the mere existence of that knowledge suggests we all have to pick a thing we might die for if the opportunity arose & one time before he pushed past the atmosphere in 1998, John Glenn visited my middle school & when I reached my hand out firm & rigid to shake his the way my father taught me John Glenn took my small hand in both of his hands & I asked him if he was ever afraid & he looked somewhere above my head somewhere beyond even the ceiling & he said I’ve never been more afraid than I have been curious
