After using nearly all of 2017 to put every extra cent we had into taking five people to Disney World for a week, the Husband and I have finally gotten back around to the business of redecorating the spaces we didn’t when we first moved into this house.

My problem is, I have a million ideas, and I can see them ALL in my head. And not all of those ideas are cohesive. My Pinterest board where I’ve been gathering inspiration for the house looks like it was put together my someone with multiple personalities.

I talk myself out of most of them, thankfully; rationalizing that while this or that might be a cool idea, do I really want to live with it for at least a decade or more?

The main floor of our Brady Bunch style split level is where the living room, dining area, and kitchen all flow together in a fairly open floor plan, so I’m trying to make all the areas at least visually get along. I’ve decided to stretch the gray/blue/white colors into the kitchen area (the only space that hasn’t been repainted yet), going with a clean lined, nautical look.

The problem comes in where my wannabe-minimalist side meets my imagination. One of my current obsessions is the mighty octopus…

I happen to know an excellent artist, and now that I’ve somewhat settled on a color scheme, I’m extremely tempted to have her paint a mural of tentacles snaking across my flat, builder grade cabinets.

The graceful cape of the blanket octopus helps her appear much bigger & intimidating to potential predators as she spends her entire live cycle swimming in the open ocean!

In situations of distress, she can break off portions of her cape to make a faster getaway.

Scientists have observed the blanket octopus ripping the highly venomous, whip-like tentacles off of the man o’ war jellyfish and using them as a defense to stun their predators & prey.
