HAHAHA Jane sees Annie gushing and goes into her monologue and Annie is just: ????? I don’t understand any of the words coming out of your mouth. I just said hi to the guy and curled my hair. We aren’t getting married Jane. GOSH. XD I love this. Annie probably refuses to admit Jane is right until she does something really stupid and is like: Oh, you meant not do that, yes that would have been smart of me. JANE WHY DIDN’T YOU STOP ME??? hashtag I am hopeless with my self-control around men.

YES them going to DC or New York or maybe a small town next to theres. I feel like Annie pitches stories for media cover all the time just so she has a reason to visit another town and maybe check out her theater stuff too? So it’s like dual? She’ll get work done and find things professionally? But also, she’s like why not explore if they let us Jane??

I think Jane bringing Annie to dinner and Colin losing his mind is the best thing ever, seriously. Like can you imagine when that happened? Also, I literally have no idea how Annie and Colin became friends, but I imagine it’s all thanks to Jane and her bringing Annie home to visit!

right???? actually though i’ve been finding a lot of paris and rory gifsets that sound a lot like annie and jane. i’ll definitely have to reblog some of them. bu, anyway, i love their history too!!! it sounds so fun!

I JUST SAID HI TO A GUY AND CURLED MY HAIR. jane is just like “i would hold your curling iron hostage if i thought it would help.” and then after annie does the thing jane would just pat her on the shoulder and be like “i know. what was i thinking not warning you about that. but i’ll know better for next time.” and then would just talk her through it and help her fix whatever it was, haha.

I LOVE THAT SO MUCH! especially since i feel like jane goes more for stories she’s passionate about and sometimes they aren’t local??? and i think she takes annie along on every single one that’s approved, haha. so they might have visited a lot of places on the east coast?? and then they should DEFINITELY explore and check out the sights and ahhh. they probably love work trips <3333

RIGHT?!?!? lizzy and i were actually talking about colin and annie meeting and here’s what we came up with:

*Annie leaves after dinner* *Jane walks back to her room after saying good night* *Colin is hovering outside her door and follows her back in her room* Colin: Who was that? Jane: Who? Annie? She’s a girl from school. You met her at dinner. Colin: No, I know. But where did you find her? Jane: … At school. Colin: Are you sure? Because she’s not just a girl. Jane, *puts hands on her arms because otherwise she won’t grasp this properly* you brought home a goddess. Jane: I’m pretty sure she’s just a girl, Colin. Colin: Maybe you didn’t hear me. She. Is. A. Goddess. Like from Olympus. Ask her. I’ll bet that’s where she moved from. Jane: You like her. Colin: Jane: Colin: Jane: Colin: Okay, good night, sis. *kisses the top of her head and immediately drives out of the room*

so he probably loved her, like, INSTANTLY. as soon as she appeared at the table, hahaha. which i still think is THE GREATEST. and as colin leaves her room and jane is just like “what have i done” hahahaha.

If it had been anyone else who had wanted to interview him, Ian might have said no. He knew that people were buzzing about his return and when Jane asked him, it would be for the record. He’d come to see her as a friend and part of him wondered if he’d say too much, but the other part of him was confident that he wouldn’t.

He’d been well trained, after all.

The Porters had always been followed around and Ian had often had to do some damage control: his brother had never cared about the consequences of his words and actions. And the press loved him for it.

The interviews had been more and more frequent lately: all touching both Ian’s new role at his father’s company and Lex’s upcoming engagement, but none of them had asked about his return to Virginia Beach. Ian suspected that this one just might. Still, whatever Jane’s questions, Ian had to remember that she was a friend and he trusted her. If he said too much or told her to omit something from the record, he knew that she would. She’d never print anything he didn’t want. That didn’t stop him from hoping that he wouldn’t have to ask.

He arrived on time, but wasn’t at all surprised to see that Jane had been even more prompt. He undid the button of his jacket before taking a seat. He’d only gotten as far as sliding it out from bar, however, when the nuts were going everywhere.

“Aptly put,” He noted, with a playful grin. He started to push the spilled nuts on the bar into a pile, so they could be easily gathered up. “This interview is already more exciting than my last one,” He added. Not that that took much. His last one had been from a financial magazine who hadn’t taken Ian seriously at all. He saw him as someone who was incapable of the job he was going to do and that the only reason he was to hold that job was because of who his father was. He hadn’t been wrong about that. Still, he’d thrown out simple, boring questions that he most likely already knew the answers to. If the interviewer had had his way, he would have thrown a dozen “gotcha” questions at Ian, but Ian suspected that his father had paid his editor handsomely to make sure that that didn’t happen.

Jane laughed, lightly, as she collected her own handful of nuts, throwing him onto the pile. She brushed her hands off over it before dropping the wrapper on top. “You mean your last interviewer didn’t ply you with nuts? How scandalous. He must be new.”

She laughed again, lightly, as she picked up her drink. Still staring at him, she tried to grasp the straw with her mouth but continually missed and eventually was forced to look down, grasp the straw with her hand and hold it while she drank. Get ahold of yourself, Jane.

Setting the drink down, she rested her chin on both hands and studied the junior Porter. The years had treated him well. He looked as handsome as ever and still smiled easily. But his eyes had changed. Before they had seemed tired but now they looked almost downright exhausted. She was almost afraid to ask. She assumed Lex was the cause but it could also have something to do with the company. At the very least, Ian looked like he needed a holiday, not more work.

“You look well,” she said quietly. “Or, well, you always look well. What I mean is you look like the years have treated you well. Have they? I’m assuming. I read other papers sometimes and they talk about you and I can’t help but read them. Sometimes they’re mean. I don’t read those.”

She broke off suddenly, glancing away from him as she felt her face redden. Why on earth was she nervous? She’d been friends with Ian for years. The time apart hadn’t changed that. If it had, he wouldn’t have agreed to see her.

With a sigh and a quick side eye glance, she suddenly turned toward him, her hand resting on his shoulder. “Can I just start over? Things have been crazy today. I think I’m a little out of sorts.”

She dropped her hand from his shoulder and moved it to her lap, nestling both hands into the folds of her skirt. “So, let’s just forget everything I already said. How are you? What’s new? What have you been doing? And please keep answers to small paragraphs since they look better in print.”

With a sudden laugh, her eyes twinkling, she began to loosen up. “I’m kidding. Off the record. I really do want to hear what you’ve been up to.

Owen exhaled, running his hand through his hair. This girl had absolutely no business going camping. “No, camping in your car doesn’t count,” He replied, cracking a forced smile as though this was a situation you’d laugh about. If she hadn’t been a customer, he would have just stopped talking to her, but he couldn’t.

Besides, there was that small detail that her that could actually die if he didn’t help her.

“Okay, well North Bay is a nice little place to go for your first time out,” He said, after clearing his throat in his best trying-to-be-Chris (but failing) voice, “But since you’ve never done anything like this before … maybe you guys should look into renting a cabin or something, before you try to rough it.” Not that North Bay was what Owen called “roughing it” but he was taking a guess that it would be rougher than she was counting on. He was already betting that it would be more than they’d be able to handle.

“Uh, how long are you guys planning to stay?” He asked, “And what time of year are you going?”

He shrugged when she asked him questions about how North Bay was set up, “I don’t know if they let you park right next to the campsite or not. I’ve honestly never been.” There were too many people there. If Owen was going to go camping, he was going to go camping and that usually included taking his brothers (but more often than not, he’d make a solo journey) and they’d usually hike and then canoe to wherever they were going. They’d go off the map.

But that was certainly not what he was going to advise her to do. He wondered if she should be doing this, at all.

“Look, I know it is my job to sell you this stuff, but listen, this isn’t something that you just go do because you want an adventure. It’s dangerous. Especially if you don’t know what you are doing. You guys should really try to go out with someone who has done this before.”

"Oh I didn’t think it counted. We weren’t actually trying to camp anyway. We were driving home from and got lost and we weren’t near a motel so we just pulled off the road into this little cove of trees and slept in the car. We were in so much trouble when we got home. Our parents though we drove off a cliff or something. We were only sixteen. Well, I was sixteen. Colin was seventeen. But, anyway, that’s not the point. That’s the closest we’ve ever made it to camping. So that’s why we thought we’d try real camping. We like trying new things. You know, going on adventures.”

At this she balled her hand into a fist and waved her arm in front of her in a kind of “ahoy, matey!” fashion as she sputtered into silence. She knew she was talking too much but she just couldn’t stop.

She refocused on his questions, his face pinching as she asked, “Isn’t a cabin cheating? This is more of a research trip. We’re trying to live off the land. And I think Colin would be upset if came back without a tent. He really wanted to try a tent. He’s been talking about practicing unzipping it for months. He has a thing about zippers. He used to play with them when we were kids. He’d unzip everything we owned just because he liked the sound. And tent zippers are, like, next level. Or so he says.”

She stopped again, glancing up to gauge his reation to her babbling. Most people walked away right now. She took the fact that he was still standing there to be a good sign. She tried to refocus, setting her sights back on purchasing a tent and less on babbling the ears off this poor man.

“Well, we’re planning to go next week. It’s supposed to be sunny so we figured no time like the present. And I think we’re just going for the weekend? We haven’t exactly made definite plans yet so we might stay longer. But for now it’s just a weekend trip. That shouldn’t be too bad, right? We can survive a couple days outdoors?”

She paused, readjusting the strap holding her bag on her arm as she looked passed him to survey the tents. “So which would you recommend for short excursions? Is that how you pick? Based on how long you’re staying? Are some tents more, uh, insulated for longer stays?”

At his words of caution she glanced back, her eyes almost shining as she stepped forward. “I really appreciate your concern,” she automatically grabbed his upper arm before realizing what she’d done and snatching her hand away. Too familiar, Jane, her brain cautioned. “But, uh, I think we’ll be fine? I mean, how hard can it be? We just pitch a tent and eat dinner and go to sleep when it’s dark out. Right? We’ll probably get some reading in. Maybe watch the sunset.

“We’re not going that deep into the woods. Definitely not deep enough to get lost. And it’s just for research. We should be find, right? We, uh, don’t really know many people who had done this before. And definitely not any who would go with us on such short notice.

“We mostly just wanted to get away for a while and spend some time together, you know. So it should be fun. Camping isn’t hard, right? If it was people wouldn’t do it???”

That sounded like logic to her. And Jane was a very logical thinker. Except when it came to trees and nature and plants. These were things she had absolutely no experience with. In fact, Jane Adams was almost terrified to go camping. But if she contined to tell herself it would be fun, maybe it would be. Or maybe she would die in the woods. No, she just wouldn’t think about that.

NO TINA I LOVE IT!!!  I LOVE THEM!!!!!!  Ok, so honestly if she were like WILL HELP IM SCARED he’d like like IM HERE AND I BROUGHT A .45 AND A SHOVEL and like 90% of the time it probs turns out she just wants him to remove a spider or something ;DDDDD but ANYWAY the point is, if she asks him, he’s there, and if she doesn’t ask him, and he learns she’s doing something dangerous, I can def see him like showing up and like getting her car and being like IF UR DOING SOMETHING DUMB IM DOING IT W YOU basically hahahahaha tbh I feel like the Selznicks are constantly just like ‘…the adams are trying to get themselves killed again’ and probs spend a considerable amount of time worrying about them/looking out for them on the dl #facepalm  

Anyway yeah idk if he’d sort of appear and be like UR NOT GOING ALONE or if she’d be like PLS COME but either way he’s in hahahaha and yeah I’m not sure???  Maybe ask Lizzy??  Cause, like, I know the Connors live in a murder house and like I mean murder does happen everywhere hahaha but yeah idk how likely it’d be??????  She might have a greater sense of how that’d work out for them????  And shenanigans ensue <3333

He def goes to the library!!  Hahah I’m facepalming bc I’m picturing the first time they saw each other there and she’s smelling a book and he’s like ‘…okayyyyyy’ basically #facepalm

Will be like ‘…how did you survive before i met you?’ basically hahahaha he probs also always brings like a sandwich bc he’s like 90% sure Jane hasn’t eaten even though it’s like 6pm and almost time for dinner not lunch ;DDDD  I feel like they are really different, but in complementary ways that kinda ~balance each other <3333333  Did we establish btw how long they’ve known each other or how they met?

KATE I AM IN LOVE WITH ALL OF THIS. THE SELZNICKS TRYING TO KEEP THE ADAMS KIDS FROM DYING IS MY ACTUAL FAVORITE THING. and will just showing up when he hears that jane is going to do something stupid aksldjfkldsfksljdf. honestly I can possibly see drew telling him about some of these things??? like mentioning the assignment jane took today and will just like “sHE DID NOT?!?!” and drops whatever he’s doing and rushing out of the house, ahahaha. but I also feel like jane would ask him along for protection on some things??? because she doesn’t really have a lot of guy friends who she can use for ~protection. and that’s not really a thing she’d ask colin to help her with. he’d be like that episode of the librarians when cassandra was trying to use a book for protection. but, then again, that’s also a thing jane would do, ahahahaha. .... it’s a good thing they have the selznicks. they’d probably be dead by now.

anyway, maybe there’s some like abandoned building that jane is investigating because it’s suspected that a cult has been squatting there or something??? abandoned buildings are pretty much universal so i could see that being a plausible thing. and then maybe it’s a combination of will just showing up because he heard she was going there and she just has her cell phone in her hand like “okay i was just calling you????” ahahaha.

WILL MEETING HER JUST SNIFFING A BOOK. THAT IS GLORIOUS. maybe that was actually the first time he met her??? like maybe either jane or drew had just started at the daily press and jane and will were both at the library and will sees her book sniffing. and then he goes to see drew at tdp and is like “dude you’ll never believe what i just saw. this girl was just sniffing books at the library.” and then he looks up and chokes and is like “DUDE THAT’S THE GIRL.” and then they somehow became friends from that, hahaha.

AND WILL BRINGING HER FOOD. he is quite literally her best friend. i hope you know. some days he’s the only one keeping her alive, ahahaha. but, anyway, i don’t think we discussed that??? i’m guessing they probably met through drew working at the daily press??? i’m thinking jane’s been there about 4 years. i don’t know if drew has been there longer/shorter (lizzy help??? @oceanfrontdrew) but they could potentially have known each other for about four years??? and i think jane and drew are pretty close to so jane could potentially be good enough friends with them that she spends time at their house/she invites them to hers. so they might see each other quite a lot?

AHHHHHHHHH!!!! But I love Jane going to Becca like “I’d like to date a boy!” and Becca trying to help her and smdh she probs makes her a tinder account and goes on there and swipes right for literally everyone and then starts chatting to boys pretending to be her (becca: trust me, if I let you do this, you won’t get any dates) and omg she probably sets her up with someone on there and you know it’s a disaster ;DDD okay but while becca probs isn’t the best matchmaker, I do think she’d be a good person for jane to be go to like “what should I wear??!?!?!” and like she’s a good person to help with hair/make-up and someone to text during the date to give encouragement (or tell her to get the hell out of there lol), etc. etc.

yeah idk if it has a coffee shop in it irl but honestly IT SHOULD??? so lets pretend that it does??!?!? and ahhh  maybe jane comes by after becca’s shift is over/when she’s on break and they just chill and becca tells her about all the new books/movies/music that have come in that look good and she tries to educate jane on music and jane tries to educate her on books ;DDD OKAY but if their music taste is obscure 70s bands (and I mean it’s colin/jane so obviously it is <333) becca literally will never, ever stop teasing jane about that.

THAT WOULD BE HILARIOUS. i feel like max would be the most likely candidate of our peeps to end up on tinder???? can this be a thing lizzy??????

but yes! becca helping her get ready and being the voice of reason! i feel like jane will also reALLY panic beforehand and be like “I’VE NEVER DONE THIS BEFORE????” and like make becca come along and hide in a plant or something to keep tabs on her and then find excuses to go ask becca how she thinks it’s going. jane is such a dating disaster, oh my word, hahaha.

AND THE TWO OF THEM TRYING TO EDUCATE EACH OTHER. THAT IS ACTUALLY BEAUTIFUL. jane listening to something becca recommends: “this is music??? it sounds like they’re just yelling about.... *eyes widen* nothing i want to hear. *rips headphones out of ears*” jane is so sheltered, ahahahaha. this should be hilarious.

and jane would just give her all of these old english novels to read like northanger abbey and jane eyre and becca is probably like:

I love it!!!!  Also, getting Ian to broker it is the absolute best scenario bc Lex would do anything for Ian - ever this.  So he’d basically be on his best behavior - which, given that this is Lex…don’t set that standard too high but it’s better than when he’s not trying at all *thumbs up*  And, anyway, if she’s been at it for years, she’s probs interviewed him before, yeah?  Or at least he’s wandered in and out (and probs answered a question or two as he does it) of Ian’s interviews hahaha and I feel like being a familiar face would work in her favor. HiS REPUTATION MAKING HER NErvOUs i love <3333  hahahah and her babbling and him like ????????  Also I’m totally cool with a one-on-one interview or a Lex/Nicole one!!  Either way is perfectly cool w me <3

mhm! i think lizzy and i decided that jane and ian met when she interviewed them the first time which was several years ago?? and that’s how they became friends. so jane honestly might be something of a fixture in the porter lives?? at least, she’s friends with ian but lex probably only knows her through interviews? and i think we said she’s the only one who ever interviews them in va beach so i don’t know how often the porters end up in the daily press but jane might have seen lex quite a lot over the years because of it?

so kara and jane are like polar opposites and I really want them to be friends b/c of it? or at least kara thinks they are friends hahaah. and just like kara coming over to jane’s at weird hours and dragging her out to do things and making her go on all kinds of crazy adventures (accidentally ofc but still). 

because i could see jane really loving kara but i also feel like she would think kara is a little much sometimes?? because jane likes short bursts of activity and LOOOOOOTS of reading recovery time? so i think she’ll like spending time with kara because she ~brings her out of her element but i also feel like maybe she doesn’t like spending *too much* time with her and maybe they don’t see each other all that often?

but i can DEFINITELY see kara showing up at carrie and jane’s apartment and like dragging her out somewhere. and i think jane really does love her and values her as a friend. jane just also has a bubble and probably has to go home and read ten books to recover from so much *actual* activity, hahahaha

hahahahah omg no, I definitely feel like that was how it was???? also, omg, so my grandmother was super strict and didn’t even let my mom and aunts do halloween and like she’d gather them up and put them in the center of the house and turn out all of the other lights and they had to just sit in the house and do homework and I feel like that was totally jane/adam’s experience, too, haha.

but ahhhahahahahahah their first trip to the carnival is MY EVERYTHING!!!!!!! I feel like colin probs also tried a rollercoaster and got sick and smh it was probably kinda awful and v overwhelming and loud and just SO MUCH GOING ON hahah also I feel like they weren’t allowed to eat junk food and so they probably ate like cotton candy and french fries and it probably also made them sick haha but it was probably also awesome but yeah they def didn’t stay long and just went back home to their books asap <3

READING TIME!!!!!!! no colin def has this, too???? and I feel like their childhood was yeah, very scheduled and organized, and tbh colin is less organized and scheduled now that he’s on his own, but I feel like he def maintains some order and he def always likes to read for at least an hour or two everyday and it might not always be at the same time everyday, like jane, but he def feels empty inside if he doesn’t get to go off and read haha

I LOVE THAT PEOPLE CAN TELL THAT THEY ARE RELATED B/C OF THE FORMAL WAY THEY TEXT!!!!!!!!!!!!! like “you must be an adams” haha actual fav i love this family so SO MUCH

TINNA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’M YELLING!!!!!!!!! THAT IS LITERALLY HOW IT WENT OMGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!! HE DEF THOUGHT THAT SHE WAS A GODDESS. He was like HOW DOES SUCH PERFECTION EXIST?!?!?!!?!?!??!?!?!?!?! and it was totally obvious that he was basically in love with her from first sight hahaha

LIZZY CAN I JUST SAY THESE ARE PROBABLY MY FAVORITE SIBLINGS EVER. THEY ARE SO HILARIOUS AND AWKWARD AND I LOVE THEM. AND HAVE MISSED THEM SO MUCH.

THAT WAS LITERALLY MY CHILDHOOD. my mom used to buy me costumes that were marked down when i was younger and then she’d give me a basket and let me go to all the doors of our house and she’d meet me there and give me candy. but that was usually after halloween? on halloween we would either sit in the dark with all the curtains closed and pretend like we weren’t home or go out to eat in a different town so we’d be home after all kids went home. I FEEL LIKE THIS IS TOTALLY COLIN AND JANE’S CHILDHOOD AHHH

THEIR CARNIVAL EXPERIENCE IS EVERYTHING. i feel like all of these rides were better in theory and they’re eventually like “OKAY WE’VE DONE IT NOW LET’S GO HOME” and take all the cotton candy and things with them and have to stop every five minutes on the drive home to throw up. they probably even tell people about “colin’s wild 16th” and make it sound like it was this huge party or something. carrie in the background: you went to a carnival. you rode on two rides. you went home. how is that wild?

COLIN’S READING TIME AHHHH. i feel like this is a thing that chase knows too??? and he knows not to disturb him at a certain time?? and maybe sometimes jane comes over and chase just answers the door and he’s like “you’re here for reading time?” and just like doesn’t even question this at all, ahahahaha. I NEED THEIR SILENT READING PARTIES SO MUCH. also totally feel like the adams kids played “library” when they were kids and they would set up all their books in shelves and practice checking them out/recommending them to each other. THEY ARE WEIRD I LOVE THEM SO MUCH (but also i would play library. right now. as an adult. sooooooo)
