I’m sorry, but no. A lot of people in our modern society make this misconception, but it’s very simply not homosexuality. I’m not trying to rag on the concept, but I also can’t bear to see people misled. You are precious, OP, very precious, but mistaken.

People supportive of the concept will cling to the following verses.  In Samuel 18:1-3 it talks about how “the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David” and that he “loved him as his own soul” is the use of the word “love” and because later in the Bible in 1 Samuel 20:40-41 Jonathan and David share a platonic kiss (most likely it was on the cheek or neck, but it was certainly not romantic).

The word “love” is expressed many times throughout the Bible and does not mean a sexual love. For example, in 1 Samuel 16:21 it states, talking about David towards Saul, that “he loved him greatly”. Additionally, the with word “knit”, the Hebrew word is “qasar” which translates more to “bind, knot, conspire, league together”, so obviously this does not give any kind of romantic connotation. The same word is used several times throughout the Bible, and is not referring to romantic or sexual love in any of the situations in which it’s used.

Furthermore, I’ve seen the argument used that the Hebrew word for “love” is the same word used for a husband and a wife. This is true, but does not imply a sexual relationship. The word is “aheb”, which is the general word for love. It is used for a husband and wife, a father and son, a mother and son, and for God’s love for humanity. Plato came up with a series of words for the specifics of love, and in the case of Jonathan and David, it refers to “friendship love”, or what is known as “philia love”. Romantic love is “eros”, the love between family is “storge”, and the general love we should all have for one another as members of humanity is called “agape”. But society has suppressed these different types of love.

Lastly, the Bible actually has no qualms about letting us know when sex was involved. When a husband had sex with his wife, the Bible states that “he went in and knew his wife”. And in this context, “knowing” is very sexually intimate.

The next thing people try to cling to to prove their theory is when David writes a lament for Jonathan, in which is says, “thy love to me was wonderful, passing the love of women.” And people think this means that he preferred a sexual relationship with Jonathan as opposed to that of women, or his wife. But this is also not correct. If you actually take time to read the Bible about them, you will see that he has had a very difficult time when it came to love. First, he was promised one of Saul’s daughters, but then that daughter was up and given to another man (and mind you, David was leery already of becoming son-in-law to the king). Then he is promised another of Saul’s daughters, one who actually loves him, but he keeps being given “bride prices” that are ultimately Saul’s attempt to kill him. For example, he is “given” this woman to wed, and yet first he must provide 100 Palestinian foreskins (of which he gives 200), and I feel there was more to it, but David’s marriage to Saul’s daughter was never without a risk.

Jonathan, however, 100% not romantic or sexual at all, provided a stable and loyal friendship. Not to mention, again, the word used to the expression of “love” is the one that refers to general love of humankind, and not sexual love, which is what Solomon is talking about when he mentions love for his wife. I think the word for sexual love is “dod” whereas for the love between David and Jonathan is “aheb” (love) or “ahaba” (loved). At no point in the story of David and Jonathan is their love indicated to be sexuaal. There’s almost always something lost in translation a little bit when going from one language to another.

And lastly, David is referred to as being “a man after God’s own heart”, and the Bible repeatedly condemns homosexuality. The verses can be found in Leviticus 18:22,  Leviticus 20:13, and Jude 7. So a man described as “after God’s own heart” would mostly certainly not be doing one of the things on the top of God’s “don’t do this” list. So as you can see, while I understand why it’s easy to read homosexuality into it, David and Jonathan are not examples of gay people.

I knew a kid, we thought for his entire youth that he was gay, but then came to find out that because of all the chemicals in his food and various other products that emulate hormones, he had too much estrogen in his system. Or his body thought he did, because there’s a chemical that can mimic estrogen so much that your body really thinks that it is. And so he always acted girly even though he insisted he wasn’t gay. So the doctor finds out he has too much estrogen, and instead of being a horrible and toxic modern influence by saying something ridiculous like “you must have been born in the wrong body”, our doctor did the right thing and told him, “hey, you are a biological male and therefore have way too much estrogen in your body.” And he got hormone treatments for the right reasons. he got testosterone treatments that helped get rid of the excess estrogen, and now he’s as masculine as you could hope for. He even got a girlfriend and got married, and he’s now a happily married man because he had a doctor with intelligence that knew that being transgender was not, and never would be, a natural state of being, and so he helped my friend to fix the situation instead of making it worse by pretending that there’s any other reality than the one we live in. And it can happen for you too! It’s not a bad thing to look into hormone treatments, you just need to do it for the right reasons! To fix your overabundance of estrogen or testosterone.

You are not born in the wrong body! You are simply a victim of generations of your society poisoning you with toxic chemicals long before you even finished developing. It’s not your fault, but you can take steps to fix it. This is a serious mental illness that needs help, not enabling. There is only one reality, we don’t each have our own. That’s a foolish concept brought on by foolish people. Don’t be taken along with them. I am happy to talk to anyone about this, as I am also someone who recovered from gender dysphoria. I truly thought I was supposed to be born a man, but I learned otherwise just in time, and I hope to help others.

Take it from someone who used to be in the same boat, there’s really no reason to change ourselves. There’s nothing we can or can’t do unless we decide we can or can’t do it. It has nothing to do with our sex, and if you feel like you may be suffering from gender dysphoria then get help! If you think you’re a FtM, then get more estrogen in your system. If you think you’re a MtF (which is unlikely because most of us here are women who have been made to feel insecure about our femininity and so we insist we must be men) then get testosterone.

And if you’re a parent thinking you can be transgender and still raise a child without issue, you can’t. You absolutely will transfer your mental illness to your child. That was partly what happened to me. My father decided he wanted to be a woman while I was still young, impressionable, and still very much in need of a father. He abandoned his masculinity and made my life very difficult. It’s always a difficult thing to have to face the world without a father or a mother, so don’t rob your children of one by adhering to this mental illness. Get the help you need for your childrens’ sake! Even if you think they’re okay with it, they may think they are too because all children want is their parents’ acceptance. They do not realize that it is a disastrous mental illness that is ruining lives on a regular basis!
