Why I don't like the conservative view on abortion
From a Christian standpoint, I can understand conservatism disagreeing with it considering I also am one. Thereâs a verse in the Bible (Jeremiah 1:5) that states, âI knew you before I formed you in your motherâs womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.â And thereâs also other similar verses that address similar points.Â
I also do not agree with abortion. However, my problem with the conservative view of abortion is not the religious stance on it, but rather their outward and surface political stance that it does take.Â
Conservatives rarely talk about pregnancy complications and how they plan to help women who go through them. They donât even acknowledge pregnancy complications. And if they do, theyâll say, âOh, but it doesnât happen that much.â
Unfortunately, pregnancy complications are a lot more common than people would originally think, which is also another reason as to why a lot of women today are now opting out of having children. Because more often than not, our society gives them very little support, women are shamed for being pregnant outside of marriage even when it was outside of their control (such as being raped), women often donât get help and in fact, thereâs a growing trend of men abandoning the women they impregnate. The trend is so widespread that we joke about it. âOh, dad left to get milk and never came back.â
These aren't strawmen that women are pulling out a hat, these are actual things that are happening.Â
1 in 3 women are sexually assaulted globally, so the concept of a woman being pregnant against her will is unfortunately not out of the norm and does have a high probability of happening. Itâs just not reported. Only 37-57% of all sexual assaults GLOBALLY are reported. It keeps happening because thereâs no punishment.
Thatâs why I have a difficult time truly trusting the statistics that say the majority of people getting abortions are only doing it because they just wanna have sex with no consequences. Iâm not denying that it could be a possibility. But I am saying that due to the VAST underreporting of rape, thereâs no real way for me to know what to believe and what not to believe when it comes to that. For all we know, that rate of raped women becoming impregnated could be MUCH higher since there is such a VAST underreporting.
The reason why rape victims donât report their experiences is because they know for a fact thereâs a very small chance of their attacker actually facing consequences for their actions. And when they do provide evidence, judges are able to act like it doesnât matter and set the person free anyway. Why would women continue to use a system that has consistently shown it has no interest in helping them?
Even if forced pregnancy wasnât a problem, the medical industry still has a discriminatory way in how it handles womenâs pain.Â
In the grand scheme of things and in terms of history, we have only recently gotten out of a system that automatically writes women off as âhystericalâ and now listen to their pain or issuesâbut even then, thereâs still countless of stories of women who had complications in their bodiesânot just in pregnancyâdue to the fact that their doctors just would not listen to them when they told them theyâre in pain or suspected something was wrong. It was only until 1993 did women in America actually start to be medically studied.Â
IT HAS ONLY BEEN 32 YEARS SINCE THE MEDICAL INDUSTRY THOUGHT, "Hmm, maybe women need their own stuff." ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME?
When you have it all down, it is any wonder why women in this day and age donât want to bear children anymore when there seems to be little perceived benefit for themselves and the child involved?
However, conservatism doesnât want to talk about these aspects of the conversation because they know they canât defend it. And they canât defend it because they donât actually care about the women and children. And thereâs no real way to defend NOT caring about something that serious. If they did, theyâd be pushing for better healthcare and environments for women to be mothers rather than just forcing pregnant women to suck it up and take care of themselves.Â
Theyâd be advocating to make sure that rapists AUTOMATICALLY get death sentences regardless of how long ago they committed the crimeâand that rapists should not have access to the children they forcibly put inside of a woman should she choose to go through with, along with making sure he pays the woman he raped child support until the kid is 18. Theyâd advocate to make better environments where itâs not easy for a rapist to get away. Theyâd make environments where men are strongly criticized for abandoning the mother(s) of their children.Â
If they did care, theyâd try to push for a much better foster care system than we have nowâwhere children in foster care have a high chance of being physically or sexually abused. Theyâd also try to make it illegal for minors to be married and/or have sex with adultsâregardless of parental consentâand that if parents do consent, that itâs considered child trafficking (because in some states of America, an adult can marry a child if they have consent from the parents which ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww---).Â
If they really cared, theyâd care to make environments where women donât feel sexual pressure from men. But conservatism addresses NONE of these thingsânor do they advocate for any TRUE change thatâd actually help reach that climate besides pressuring young people to get married for the sake of getting married.
Because of the fact that conservatism wants to get to a place where abortion canât be practiced, yet theyâre not advocating for changes to make pregnancy and/or to make the societal climate easier for pregnant women, that tells us what most people already knewâthat conservatism doesnât like women (shocker).
They donât care if you get ill, they donât care if you miscarry, they donât care if the child is stillborn, dies in the wombâor if YOU, the MOTHER, dies as a result of the pregnancy complications. Itâs easy for men to want children when theyâre not the ones who literally risk death just to bring another person here.Â
So considering the fact that conservatism more often than not will discard or gaslight people on these concerns, itâs no wonder no one wants to listen to someone who has less than supporting views on abortion. Because their views on abortion arenât ACTUALLY biblical, theyâre purely authoritarian and based on business.
And the nerve conservatism has to say they care about children when their actions prove otherwise is disgusting to me. If youâre not going to advocate to make the world a better place for pregnant women, why would women want to pop out more children for the world we live in? It makes no sense.Â
While liberalism might want women to be public property, conservatism wants women to be private property. At the end of the day, they both still view women as property. I will keep saying this till the day I die.
