Iβve started listening to the book project Hail Mary and frankly thereβs no room in the plot of this book for that man everyone seems to be shipping Grace with so I decided to look it up and apparently instead of letting a character not have a romantic interest yβall have yoinked a character out of some kind of Markiplier project
This is the goddamned Jack Frost and Elsa situation all over again
This post fucking reeks, block the tag and move on. Also not to dicksuck Markiplier but to dwindle down his box office hit movie to a YouTube project is insane to me.
Grace is not a real character, and your headcanon with him being aroace, is even less real. Youβll be ok. Go the fuck outside if this really bothers you.
You know people on this post have gotten way more heated about this random opinion I have than I actually am about my random opinion.
I had also not heard of that movie before I looked it up so like idk dude thatβs just what my first reaction was
Like Iβm not going onto the tag to bother people. I just donβt like it, Iβm not interested in hiding that I donβt like it, and thatβs that. Like I really donβt feel as heated about it as people seem to think that I do.
To be quite honest with you all I do think that aro/ace-spectrum fans in fandoms where people are desperately inventing crossover ships and humanizing non-human characters in order to have a conventionally attractive guy to ship the main character with, instead of possibly having to enjoy a story with no romance in it, have the right to refer to everyone else as cowards.
Really need people to understand that being on HRT for three years and getting top surgery and dressing only in clothing from the menβs section has not actually made anyone stop gendering me as a woman in public.
This is a frustrating piece of my reality that I find people make incredibly incorrect assumptions about, no matter what the topic is.
Had a friend yesterday going on about how they regrettably feel thereβs no point in pursuing physical transition because they will βalways look like a woman from the neck downβ due to her body shape, in comparison to my body shape. I had to shut it down both because A: not a healthy reason to avoid pursuing transition and I love them and want them to pursue their own joy, however that meaningfully looks, and B: I do not get gendered as anything other than a woman. The implication that my body shape being less hourglass-y than theirs would mean that unlike them, I am able to transition out of the woman assumption, is an implication that hurts both of us.
They were surprised to learn that I do not get gendered as anything other than woman. Not over the phone, not in person, not at the Wendyβs fuckin drive-thru. I have never once been misgendered as a manβonly ever a woman. I have never once been gendered correctly by a stranger. They said, but you donβt look like a woman, whichβ¦ I told them I appreciated their perspective, but they are not the majority cishet society, and they are demonstrably wrong in matters of the public. I still look like a woman to every stranger I meet. I still sound like a woman to every stranger I meet. I am not suddenly able to avoid or opt out of experiencing misogyny and sexismβif anything, for me, thatβs gotten worse. I get misgendered harder because what people see is an ugly female rule-breaker.
The idea that all transmasculine people, or even just all the skinny white ones, can just simply start passing with HRT and surgery, and additionally, that anyone who isnβt thin, or who has wider hips canβt expect to pass, is as laughable as it is insidious. This belief was literally being used to bolster up my friendβs own internalized transphobia. To prevent them from seeking joy in transition. This friend of mine who is barely even out as anythingβbecause, as they say, if they let themself think about it, they will get incredibly depressed over what can never be.
I love them dearly, but their assumption cut both waysβit was a defensive move for them to avoid having to think about the reality where their own trans joy is possible, leaving them only with the comfortable, familiar pain of dysphoria with no possibility of relief; and it was an offensive assumption that presumed that my own dysphoria was able to be relieved and that my own trans joy was only made possible by virtue of sheer dumb luck of the draw on body-type. Itβs a deeply damaging assumptionβbecause again, I have never βpassedβ for a guy a single day in my goddamn life (never mind actually passing as genderqueer, something that isnβt possible)βthat would have been leading them to draw damaging conclusions about my relationship with gender, with trans joy, with dysphoria, with society, with transphobia, with sexism, with misogyny.
Too many of you spend so long looking at other trans people and other gender traitors (affectionate) that you have this fucked up idea in your head of how majority society views peopleβs gender, and you mistakenly apply your own understanding and recognition of nuanced and complex gender expression to a conversation about majoritarian society. You can look at me and probably come close to the right conclusion (probably nonbinary, possibly trans man?), but you have got to understand that when I walk outside and meet people on the street or at my job, they are not you. They do not see the nuance. They look at me and they make a very very simple conclusion: woman.

Autistic Advice #9
In a piece for The New Inquiry from back in 2017, George Dust states that when queer people complain about there being a top shortage, what they really mean is βnobody is fucking me the way I want, and I have no agency in that.β Alongside co-authors Billy-Ray Belcourt and Kay Gabriel, Dust suggests that many queer people align themselves with a passive or βbottomβ position because they believe that role will absolve them of the guilt of really wanting things. They present themselves as what they believe to be the sexual party with zero power; the receiver, the accepter of action rather than its cause.
This position is drawn in contrast to the bottom-identified personβs idea of a top: the one who approaches, the person with hungers and desires, the person who decides which sexual activities will happen and how intense they will get. The top, from this perspective, is the stronger, more capable, more dangerous person. Theyβre the only one who can ever be guilty of intruding or harming somebody else. This power is scary, but itβs also compelling.
Dust calls this fantastical version of a top a βbruteβ β and they are the most cartoonish stereotype of what it means in society to be a man. Because itβs a cartoonish stereotype, no human actually lives up to it β and weβd probably revile a person even if they could.
Though queer people know we are harmed by the gender binary and heteronormativity and all the social scripts those things force upon us, its biases are still embossed on our brains. Without meaning to, we reproduce tired gender stereotypes in our relationships. And so we see expressing a sexual want as masculine, and being masculine as being more capable of violence and coercive control, and thus bad. We see failing to communicate oneβs desires openly as desirably feminine, as well as a sign of blamelessness and purity β because on some level we still feel it is wrong to have desires.
But this entire worldview is a complete lie. Desire is not evil. Expressing attraction is not a violation. Failing to express oneself can be just as dangerous as not listening to someone elseβs limits. Women can be abusive. Bottoms can sexually assault. No matter our gender, presentation, or sexual role, we are each capable of harm. And the only way to make a safe, mutually pleasurable sexual encounter happen is by going after it, actively, and communicating from a position of inner strength.
So how do you do that, if societyβs been telling you all your life that youβre meant to date by acting like a deer passively snapping twigs in the woods, waiting for some hunter to hear you, and pursue you? (That really is dating advice that Evangelical Christian counselors give to women, if you can believe it).
By not fixating so much on what youβre doing or not doing to draw other people toward you, and instead thinking in terms of what you want and what you observe beyond yourself.
thanks for these additions !
#ooooh boy. yeah..#i definitely was like this whne i was first coming out. this is really good writing#it's hard to unlearn. it's hard to change. but havigg that agency is so so important#for yourself. for not making your partner do all the emotional work#for owning your sexuality/queerness without guilt#anyways. genuinely sorry to every butch/masc i had a crush on when i was a baby gay. hope y'all are doing well
Love when people add these. Thanks for sharing about your growth!

may we live to see the day where the first photo results of your intersex variation aren't graphic photos of igm
In setting up Intersex Wiki one of the decisions I have been feeling really good about is the policy/practice that the first photos in any article on an intersex variation need to be photos of clothed individuals with their faces visible. Ideally smiling for the camera.
I'm so tired of articles on intersex variations where the visuals are graphic images of genitals & obviously uncomfortable (semi-)naked people with their faces cropped or blurred out.
It has really been a breath of fresh air to instead have humanizing photos of actual (often famous) intersex individuals as the illustrations for intersex variations, e.g.:
It's not always possible to find humanizing photos since some intersex variations are very rare, but I personally think it's been worth the effort to try and hunt down these kinds of photos! π

what tertiary attraction do you experience? mine is aesthetic but it's dismissed by literally everyone :(
Sorry for getting to this late, short answer is its complicated. Longer answer is I'm oriented towards people who seem to be having fun with it
Cis ppl will see testosterone on your medication list and ask which way you're transitioning
Don't beat yourself up about it
Don't self flaggelate in the notes over it
But how many times did it take you seeing the "hey girl i mean they" memes before realizing the joke is literally just misgendering trans men and nonbinary people? Now consider why it took you that long to realize.
tell me how you've been fumbled before and/or how you fumbled

It sort of feels like a subset of people feel that when a trans man is called a woman, it doesn't count as misgendering.
There are a couple of reasons for this. They are all sexist and misogynistic.
And then there's a subset of people who say "well ok it's misgendering, but it's not as bad as when a trans woman gets called a man"
uh
yes it is.
it is exactly as bad to call a trans man a woman as it is to call a trans woman a man.
