I'm imagining Lumax after Max woke up from a two-year coma and couldn't move.
I'm imagining the time where she was doing physiotherapy to get back control over her body, and Lucas making sure to be there and support her. Lucas staying over at the Mayfield's trailer just so he could help Max's mom with carrying Max aroundβfrom bed to wheelchair, and the wheelchair out of the trailer, at least.
I'm imagining Max, frustrated over her lack of independence, having to beg her mom to help her when going to the toilet so Lucas doesn't see her in thereβso he doesn't see her naked when they haven't even done anything sexual yet. She helps, because of couse she would; but the strain of the effort to move Max around can become too much at times. Max continues to feel frustrated for being such an inconvenience in everyone's lives right now.
Lucas tries to console her, say that this is just temporary and she'll recover in no time and all of this will just be a memory. And Max wants to believe that, but she's used to running from her feelings, and right now, she can't just push Lucas away because she needs him.
Max overexerting herself in every P.T. session, because she wants to stop relying on everyone and feeling like a burden. Lucas hugging her after she cries in pain from her exercises, and saying it's okay, she can take her time.
Max trying to push Lucas away unconsciously, and Lucas doubling down in being there and helping her, because she did this before and he backed off and she nearly died, so he will never leave her again, no matter how hard she pushes him. He knows she needs him here, not far away. Which makes Max cry again, but this time not out of anger, but just wanting solace.
I'm also imagining an alternative scenario where Max and her mom move in with the Sinclairs temporarily, because they had to house Grandma Sinclair after her hip surgery back in the day so they got a place with a downstairs bedroom and a spacious downstairs bathroom that could accomodate her better, that was now empty. So Max has a real community around her, trying their best to help her recover somewhere that is not so cramped and far away from the hospital. Her mom has people to share the load with, and Max has Erica and Lucas to keep her in check when her "I'm making everyone's lives worse" bullshit comes bubbling to the surface again.
And finally, Max learning to ask for what she wants instead of expecting Lucas to know everything she expectsβand exemplifying that by asking Lucas to sit her on the couch in a way where they can cuddle while they watch TV.
