Saturday, May 9th, 6 days until the wedding. Will and Carlton are on the plane to Hawkins “I cant wait to get there, I haven’t seen everyone in so long” Will says. “I know i’m excited to see all your childhood friends, especially this “mike” you always talk about!” Carlton looking at Will while smiling. “sure” Will says, he gets nervous just thinking about Mike.. Will knows though that it wont be any trouble, I mean he’s moved away, got a boyfriend, that someone who accepts him, Nothing will happen.
The plane ride is short, only around 6 hours, their coming from California, the hours go by quick, “Attention passengers we’ll now be landing”. ➡️ Carlton & Will get off the plane and out the airport, Carlton asks “Want me to call a taxi?” “no” will says “I called Lucas earlier, he should come get us soon” some time goes by, Wills again talking about how excited he is, a car pulls up in-front of the bench their sitting on. The front window rolls down “WILL, LONG TIME NO SEE, HUH?” Lucas yells out the car, “Lucas! I thought you would’ve ditched us by now with how long you were taking!” Will reaches for his suitcase, while Carlton reaches for his hand, Will doesn’t notice and gets up walking to the car before Carlton can reach it. Both walking to the car, Lucas says “Well “someone” here took extra long getting ready for some reason, knowing it was just the airport were going to” Looking in the backseat. This “someone” gets out the car walking around to the back by the trunk “huh?” “I thought it was just you coming” Will says laughing, walking to the trunk aswell he then goes “Let me guess max?” jokingly knowing it would be her.
Walking from behind the car comes Mike. That “someone” was Mike. Will freezes, he knew he’d see mike at some point but he would be prepared then. Mike opens the trunk then faces him “Will.. hi.” “hi.” Will said standing there, his body in shock “Let me take those from you” Mike says starring at the bags then reaching for them “Oh yeah, of course” Will says rushing to grab the other bags from Carlton “Here” sitting them infront of mike. Lucas loudly “Carlton!, I think your name is? How bout you go ahead & get in the car!” “oh sure!” Carlton says opening the door and getting in, Him and Lucas are talking while will and mike load the bags. Mike loading the second bag, Will just stands there staring at mike bending over putting the bag up, his hair is back to how it was in 87, it was wavy again, it was just the way it was when Will would compliment it everyday. Admiring Mike, Will doesn’t realize he’s just been standing there staring, Mike looks up, Will following his eyes “So.. are you gonna help me or just stand there?” Mike says, he feels bad “Sorry that sounded rude” anxiously “But you are just standing there…”. “No no your right, Sorry!” Will says rushing and loading the last two bags up “We should probably get in the car, huh?” Mike says like a question but its really not “oh yea of course” Will says as they head opposite ways, Mike to the left of the backseat, Will to the right, Carlton in the middle.
The drive starts, awkward silence takes over the car for about 7 minutes, Will breaks it “So guys this is Carlton, uh me and him had been on & off for some years but were dating now.. so.. yea.” Its still awkward “yea i remember him from when you two first started talking” mike says, Wills hands tensed & quickly reached for Carltons, holding hands, “Huh so Will told you about me?” Carlton jokingly, “Yea alot” Mike says while laughing a little, Will looks out the window to avoid the even more awkward conversation he had just made. ➡️ The painfully long drive is over, they made it to the house that max and Lucas rented for the 3 weeks, the weekend before the wedding, the week of the wedding, and the weekend after, the house is only for the main party so not alot of people are staying there. “Im excited to explore this place, crazy that is the town Will tells me so much about” Carlton rants “Yea not much to do when we were younger but im sure they’ve expanded the place some” Mike says, the car comes to a stop, Lucas opens his car door, the other follow behind him”.
Mike once again heads to the trunk ready to get the bags out, Will gets out the car, he just stands there looking around since he hasn’t been in Hawinks since they were teenagers, Carlton goes up to mike around the back “Mike, I got it, you go catch up with Will!” “oh ok” nervously mike says as he walks towards will, he comes up next to will “will.” Will turns to him “Mike-“ before will can say anything else Mike hugs him “ive missed you..” mike says arms wrapped around his neck, Will hesitates then hugs him back, “you’ve..changed” mike says softly his face resting almost digging into wills shoulder. The hug is long, its awkward, Carltons got the bags just staring at them.. waiting i guess, Will backs out the hug feeling as if.. its wrong, the same feeling he felt the night mike hugged him after he stopped the Demogorgons “Ive missed you too, but it seems you’ve barely changed!” Will says trying to uplift mike. ➡️ They all head inside, max is in the kitchen unloading some drinks they got into the fridge, Mike and Lucas walk in first “Guys, your back already!” “Wheres will?” Max says just as will walks in, Carlton behind him, “Will!! and..?” max excited and confused “Im Carlton, Wills boyfriend! his +1!” Carlton says hugging max “Oh, its nice to finally meet you! Glad to see will finding someone good for him” Max says backing out the hug, hands on Carltons shoulders.
“I think he’s better for me honestly!” Carlton smiling back at will, “good to hear! anyways let me show you guys to your room, follow me” max says Carlton and will following behind her, they get to the room, its two twin sized beds on opposite walls “i would’ve gave yall the other queen sized bed but well.. someone took it and it was kinda whoever came first got to pick first” Max says apologizing. “Thats ok, maybe ill just convince will to get a hotel room” Carlton says sitting the bags on the ground “Ok, well i’ve got to get this fridge stocked” max laughing closing the door, will sits on the bed “so?” Carlton says pushing will down on the bed getting on top of him, “So..what?” will confused, “soo do you wanna get a hotel? so we can be alone together” Carlton says kissing wills neck, “I kinda wanna stay here..” will says nudging Carlton off and walking to the dresser to unpack the bags, Carlton left sitting on the bed.
Will looks over to Carlton “Im sorry..” “Its fine. you know its getting late im going to bed.” Carlton says changing into pajamas, Carlton laying in bed, “I guess ill change too so we can turn off the lights and go to bed.” Will changes, turns the lights off, and gets in bed, both lying there in the dark, opposite beds.“Are you mad at me…?” Will says, “no, im not.. its just..nevermind.” Carlton sighs turning over and going to bed.
