They’re girls and they just want to have fun!!! Elmax is so special and important to me I want them to just live in this moment forever
"Holy shit this is insane!"
"Max."
"Yeah, right, sorry."
El is the only person who could tell that girl to stop talking and not get punted into the stratosphere. Elmax real
A recent conversation in a discord group reminded me of something important. If you're on the younger side (under 25 or 30) and you haven't seen all the incredible, dark and disturbing fantasy films that came out in the 1980s and late 1970s, then I would strongly encourage you to do so. There was something so dark about that genre during that time that I absolutely adore and that isn't really around in modern films for children and young adults (once they learned that it traumatized a whole generation of us).
My faves in case you need any recommendations. (Some of these are really not appropriate for children, so keep that in mind lol).
The Dark Crystal - 1982 - the Skeksis will give you nightmares. I am honestly very proud of the remake for being just as disturbing if not more so than the original.
Watership Down - 1978- NOT FOR CHILDREN - Jesus Christ why did so many of our parents show us this film at a formative age? It's all about trauma and death and displacement and there's literal blood and murder. Not a G Rated Film. Still, it's very good. Loads better than that CGI remake from a decade ago.
The Secret Of NIMH - 1982 - Incredible movie. Minor disturbing elements. Probably my favorite on the list. It's just a great adventure story with real world issues (animal experimentation, mental health problems, disabilities) and there's even a lovely romance. Highly recommend.
Legend - 1985- This film is just straight up disturbing. Yes, there's a lot of beautiful shots of unicorns and sexy, 20-something year old (insane Scientology wack job) Tom Cruise and gorgeous Mia Sara, but there's also torture, madness and literally the Devil (Tim Curry is the entire reason you should watch this film)
Labyrinth - 1986 - I only really have two words. David. Bowie. My 10 year old self found out about a lot of burgeoning kinks while watching that man prance around in eyeliner and a codpiece. It's a wonderful adventure as well - if you ignore the blatant romantic and sexual tension between Bowie and an underage Jennifer Connelly (none of us could)
The NeverEnding Story - 1984 - Lots of disturbing imagery in this one! The Nothing was fucking terrifying, and the creatures in this world seemed uniformly creepy, but still incredibly well done. Love the adventure of it.
The Princess Bride - 1987 - Not technically a kids film maybe? Lots of adult themes and adult jokes, but safe for kids imo. I adored it and still do. Incredible performances by Cary Elwes and Mandy Patinkin. R.O.U.S, Hello! My name is Inigo Montoya! (need I say more?)
The Last Unicorn - 1982 - A beautiful film with stunning representations of innocence, good and evil. Just gorgeous really. I should rewatch it as it's been 20 years or so.
I think people need to be reminded of the fact that a giant part of Dustin’s character is that he’s visibly disabled.
Yes he doesn’t let his disability affect him in any negative way and he’s not really defined by it but the reason he’s been bullied and isolated is because of it.
When people do fancasts for genderbent or different era aus they need to make sure they don’t cast a random fully abled person.
Edit: I actually do think Dustin is defined by his disability in a way bc people make so many jokes abt it(even himself) and it’s treated more as a party trick than a thing he has to deal with day to day, which is a big part of his existence as mostly a comedic relief+exposition.
Also the show did not care abt his character or his dignity. For example him get a gf offscreen when everybody else had developed relationships or atleast queer subtext, having his best friends think he’s lying and making the whole relationship a joke ect. The writing treats him as a punching bag.
The show overall is racist, homophobic, misogynistic, ableist and a whole host of other things while claiming to be a show for outcasts and owning all of their success to outcasted teens who raved abt getting even the slightest bit of something they could relate to.

the thing I love most about how tumblr users use tags is that it’s like what if a social media website had a footnotes system
I like Lucas being bi for the very simple reason: I can ship him with Max and with Will (even at the same time!) and he still fits that "loves masculine women and feminine men" bisexual stereotype that makes me laugh because it's true
alright I've got to do some quick math to explain attitudes towards AI to my boss.
we're looking to create an AI policy, and when we were talking about this, my boss (older millennial) was genuinely shocked to hear that younger people do not (seem) to view AI positively (a la the recent commencement speakers being booed)

i love the part of making art where you feel like you need to go missing
Minor pet peeve: Y'all really gotta start looking up when things are invented. I am SO happy about all the new fics in The Lost Boys fandom. Great writing, great characterization. Big fan. But oof. Guys. There was no "putting someone on speaker". It was a landline, you either held the receiver up between the two of you, or someone picked up another receiver in the house. Waterproof eyeliner? That was invented in 2006. 30 years after The Lost Boys. It really only drives me wild because I was born prior to The Lost Boys coming out and I have very vivid memories of the early 90s and what life was like pre-internet and pre-cellphone.
The slang is also positively hilarious. "Cringe"??? No, that's a strictly 2020s word. People were "uncool", "weird", or the f-slur.
Fun 80s words that I distinctly remember actively being used by my older cousins: rad, gnarly, bogus, clutch, ditz, warped, to veg out, scarf down. There's a bunch out there. They just sound boring to 2026 ears because they've been around so long. They were new once.
Seriously, it's not a big deal. I just find it so funny reading 1987 vampires saying "Ugh, don't be cringe." Or someone just "looking something up". No babes, that involved a library, card catalogs, the dewey decimal system, and microfiche or microfilm. And a phone number? That was the yellow pages or the white pages. Boy was it not a good time if that book wasn't tied down to the payphone or if the pages you needed were ripped out. Best to have those numbers memorized.
These are just a few resources I found in regards to the 1980s. Add on if you find any more!

Once they reach the sand, they sit down to take off their shoes. Robin finishes unlacing hers first while Chrissy is still working on her boots, so Robin shifts closer and kneels in front of her.
"Here," she says softly. "Let me help."
By now, Robin feels pretty confident this is definitely a date—she's on a date! With a girl! And she's determined to show this girl exactly how she deserves to be treated.
Robin looks up as the second boot slides off and finds Chrissy breathing just a little faster. For one reckless second, Robin wants to kiss her right there, but there are still too many people nearby. Instead, she stands and takes Chrissy's hands to help her up.
"You're tall," Chrissy says as they stand close. "I like tall girls."
Robin immediately drops her head, trying to hide the huge grin spreading across her face.
They wander farther down the beach until they find a quieter stretch of sand away from the crowd. Sitting side by side facing the waves, Robin glances down at Chrissy's hand before carefully placing her own over it.
The next second, Chrissy leans in and kisses her. It's quick and messy and completely catches Robin off guard, leaving her breathless when Chrissy pulls away.
"I'm sorry," Chrissy says with a nervous laugh. "I just couldn't wait anymore."
Robin laughs too, dizzy with relief and excitement. "It's okay. Me neither."
She takes the initiative this time, cupping Chrissy's face and closing the distance between them. Chrissy melts into the kiss instantly, pressing closer as her fingers slip into Robin's hair.
"I really like you, Robin," she murmurs against her ear before her lips trail lower, brushing soft kisses along Robin's neck.
"Me too," Robin breathes out. "I—I really like you too."
Robin's fingers tighten on Chrissy's jacket when she feels teeth against her neck, followed by the warm press of Chrissy's mouth on her skin.
"Is it okay if I…" Chrissy hesitates, lips brushing just below Robin's ear. "If I bite a little harder?"
The way she says it, uncertain and wanting all at once, makes it impossible for Robin to say no.
"Yeah."
But nothing prepares her for the sudden sharp pain of fangs piercing her skin.

i'm sorry but a lot of you guys need to be writing short stories.
"[x story type] but what if-" short story. come on man you should know that if your story is easily blurbed down to "interesting thing happens" that is not going to sustain a reader for 400-600 pages. a book is where you write an actual narrative, not a cool idea that came to you in the shower last night.
there's nothing wrong with writing a short story! there are lots of good short stories that revolve around Interesting Ideas. What if I was my own mother. What if fish people were real and also (evil) living in massachusetts. What if you were your own worst enemy, literally. lots of good short stories there, all at just the right length for a cool idea. no one is going to go see the feature-length adaptation of William Wilson though, because that's it. unless you add in a tragic backstory and a love interest and so on and unfortunately there are a lot of novels and movies running around out there that clearly were meant to be a short story before someone took them and stretched them to a silly length.
your short story doesn't even have to be short! herman melville wrote over 100 pages of a guy who hated his job so much he died of being a hater the end. good show, herman. thank you
novellas exist. you can write one. please. it's necessary for the land to survive
@justaflyintooka "The Shadow Over Innsmouth", by H.P. Lovecraft
You guys should also be reading short stories, they're like a lovely cool bottle of mineral water if mineral water was concentrated fucked-uppedness.
