Concrete Mammoths of Qanat Bakish [Set 3of3 site+sound] . Abandoned “Al Biyada” Chalets 1970 Qanat Bakish, Baskinta, (Faraya) Mount-Lebanon, Lebanon By Georges Tamer Haddad Architect [2017:08:15 12:05:00] . Designed late 60s close to the Qanat Bakish ski slopes, the project was discontinued at the start of the Lebanese civil war in 1975. This plain concrete (béton brute) modernist architecture bears bas-reliefs designed by the architect and integrated in the initial pouring of the concrete formwork, typical of that era. This plain architecture echoes the arid slopes of this mountain peak during the summer period. The bas-reliefs give the whole site a feel of primal rupestrian art, parietal art, when each unit with its temporary structural front columns mimic herds of mammoths. From afar, the abandoned structure looks silent and still.
