i do think its very funny that obi-wan is positioned (by both canon & the fandom) as the one tsk-ing and telling anakin off for wanting to do war crimes when the first war crime done in (the first 30 minutes of!) tcw flat out is committed by obi-wan himself (false surrender)
it's even funnier because there's a scene in an unfinished episode where these droids are trying to shoot obi-wan and he's like you cant execute me without a blindfold its against the yavin code and when anakin rescues him, obi-wan is like why has no one read the yavin code and anakin's like its so old. which has fascinating implications where in universe, the geneva convention exists, it defines what war crimes are, obi-wan has read it, and apparently no one else has???? which means obi-wan is knowingly doing war crimes and everyone else is presumably just doing whatever
making some bad decisions!!
we poke fun at obi-wan for saying "sith lords are our specialty" and then getting his ass kicked by dooku, but in fairness, he was at the time the only person in living memory to have actually killed a sith. he showed remarkable humility honestly.
OP these tags are amazing, please
[Image ID: Tumblr tags reading: #obi wan kenobi #star wars #the most unrealistic thing about rots is that after killing dooku anakin wasn't like. okay score is now tied at one all #au where he resists palpatine bc killing sideous will give him a 2-1 lead over obi-wan #*slams palpatine off rooftop* Game! /End ID]

When I tell you that this video made me absolutely hysterical Iâm not kidding. Gasping for air
My controversial obikin opinion is that I don't believe Obi-Wan would enjoy domming. i believe he'd try do it for a partner, but he'd never get any personal enjoyment out of it.
like i genuinely think that if Anakin acted bratty/subby Obi-Wan would go soft instantly from the anxiety memories from their trouble years. and if Anakin went meek and subby he'd get indecisive and frustrated (and low key resentful tbh bc maybe Anakin could have displayed this behaviour in front of the council and spared Obi-Wan many headaches if he enjoyed it so much).
imo if it was requested he'd try his best to put on the act, and he'd probably eventually get good at performing domination, but he'd never be able to get hard during it.
i actually like one sided kink and partners indulging the other. and i love bad sex and dissapointing sex. so to me this isn't a negative thing.
this is specifically a book take tbh, but Obi-Wan is a character that's hyper competent, has a lot of responsibility, and is in a high leadership role. as a jedi, he does not allow himself space for doubt. he is decisive. he is always in control. he has control issues, and he likes for things to be in particular and predictable ways.
interpersonally? the man is a mess. he struggles to control Anakin. he hates *trying* to control Anakin (he wants to be a brother and not a father figure). he cannot communicate his emotions or be honestly about them. he is indecisive, anxious, avoidant, and out of his depth every single year Anakin is a padawan.
he also struggled somewhat similarly with Qui-Gon, questioning his behavior towards his master *constantly* in a way he never questioned his actions as jedi padawan (after a certain age).
to me he is just. the typical person with non stop responsibility and control issues that needs help winding down outside of work.
#i've accepted the rots novelization and owk series as the bedrocks of my star wars worldview#and so true dom obi-wan is just not something i can get into#op is so right#and you've explained this so well ty#i have deranged handwritten notes from when i read the rots novelization like:#'pages 24-25 - Anakin explicitly dislikes taking orders and takes control of situations unilaterally while ignoring obi-wan's concerns'#page 25 'Anakin says 'this is how i relax' about a fraught situation where he has taken total control' <-taggs by @obimilk
RIGHT! like, Obi-Wan wouldn't enjoy domming, but that's fine because Anakin wouldn't enjoy being dommed by him either. Because he is an ass that would dislike being under even *more* of Obi-Wan's control. They already tried that for 9 padawan years and it didn't work comfortably for either of them.
Anakin is the opposit of Obi-Wan, a guy who has no control over his life (born a slave, then enthrust with a destiny and a very controlled lifestyle that does not come naturally to him), and *desperatly* wants control over his life/loved ones/death etc. Wants it so much he kills a lot of people trying (and failing) to get it.
I think the way to maybe calm him the fuck down down would be to let him enact his control fantasies on a willing masochist (Obi-Wan) TBH. This is my truth #mytruth.
Nay - Hektor - you who to me are father, mother, brother, and dear husband - have mercy upon me; stay here upon this wall; make not your child fatherless, and your wife a widow (Il. 6.429-32)
I couldn't stop thinking about this post by @intermundia, so I did something. I'm sorry [not really sorry].

âanakin said obi-wan is like his fatherâ âobi-wan called anakin his brotherâ as if either of them have any fucking clue what those things mean lmao

thinking about how obi-wans life was never about himself. and thatâs 100% the way he liked it. despite the psychological torture it put him through.
Obi-Wan and Boga
Through the Force, he felt in the beast an unshakable commitment to obedience and care for its rider: an almost Jedi-like devotion to service as the ultimate duty (âŚ)
âYouâd best find your way home, girl,â he said, patting Bogaâs scaled neck. âOne way or another, I doubt Iâll have further need of your assistance.â
Boga gave a soft, almost regretful honk of acknowledgment, then bent a sharper curve into her long flexible neck to place her beak gently against Obi-Wanâs chest.
âItâs all right, Boga. I thank you for your help, but to stay here will be dangerous. This area is about to become a free-fire zone. Please. Go home.â
