Anyway for reasons totally unrelated to the last post the type of JGY fic I am on some level always trying to write is the one where JGY tries to explain to his mom's ghost that he, on paper, got everything she ever wanted for him and so he isn't a failure really, he isn't, it's just that he got into the golden tower and it sucks here actually, it sucks so bad, but there's nothing to be done about it and even if she weren't dead, the world that's true for her and the one that's true for him are separated by so so so much distance and such astronomical differences in access and privilege that she will never really understand why he's upset (if he even lets himself acknowledge he is, much less To Her) and that just sucks and there's nothing to be done about it. And it doesn't mean she's cruel and it doesn't mean she doesn't love him and it doesn't mean he hasn't made her proud or succeeded, in a way. And he can be happy about that. But there's still a hollowness to it that only feeds into his sense of always needing to explain himself and somehow never really succeeding and I just. Hmm I'm very normal about complex context.

Like am I projecting yes but do I also think that the sheer extent of the class stratification that seems to exist in mdzs particularly for someone like JGY who's background is both non gentry and non cultivator, specifically, is like. It ends up shaped like an immigrant experience even though on a technical level it's not. But experientially

if i made a video game where you get to pick the gender of the player character i'd make both the options be nonbinary and you can either have they/them or it/its pronouns. those are your only options

the thing that makes me mad about light pollution is that so much of it could be fixed by downward-facing light fixtures and doing that would also massively reduce energy usage bc all that light cast upward is wasted energy

Like that's not the only book in existence but this does show up in magazines and stuff going back to the 70s at least and also. Moreso the point is just. The conflation isn't something that sprung up on the internet nor is establishing a distinction an issue of "correcting" a common misperception so much as. Attempting to reinforce a concurrent usage as the better one. Which. I just think would be better served by arguing for its merits (which do exist) instead of trying to do a "bet you didn't know" type thing about it.
