I am so ashamed of my fandom right now. I just saw an old (3 days old) conversation on Twitter that involved eight Star Wars roleplayers. Seven of them bashing the one other person (whom I consider one of my internet friends) over something that was clearly just a misunderstanding. Over greeting one of them while they were roleplaying with someone else.

The person who received the initial greeting was upset because my friend interrupted their roleplaying -They even said he ‘ruined it.’-

This person lashed out at my friend both in and out of character, insulting their OC by telling them that they were a ‘Mary Sue’ and that they didn’t understand how to roleplay, also insisting that there were a set of ’rules’ that all roleplayers must follow.

Personally, I’ve been roleplaying for several years myself, -Mostly through Email and roleplaying website forums- and have never seen any rules other then those set by the individuals involved in the roleplay. (Godmoding being the only exeption I can think of.)

The other six roleplayers came into the conversation after this to joke and stick up for the person attacking my friend who seemed to have finally blocked them. But I can’t imagine how frustrating it must have been for him after that point, I don’t know if anyone harassed him through direct messaging as well but certainly his notifications timeline was filled with unnecessary hate. All because he greeted the wrong person.
