i just simply can’t let that happen. i won’t allow it
basically I think my taste in fiction is, I don't care about plot, and I don't care about character, and I don't care about setting, and if you take all those things away from a book what's left is the parts of it that I care about, and if you take those things away and there isn't anything left of the book then I probably don't like it

it has been about 8 whole years since I started reading and digitally collecting scifi, and specifically only scifi that had been written by women. Wow. what happened was I used to not care about science fiction very much. then I learned that one of my favourite albums is actually named after a science fiction short story written by a woman named Alice Sheldon in 1973 called Love is the Plan the Plan is Death. So I read it and the rest of the stories in the anthology it came in and it was the most bizarre, confronting, confusing thing I'd ever read at the time. and it was so immediately and intensely lifechanging that not only did I straightaway go about reading everything else Alice Sheldon (who I would come to realise was the most interesting person ever to have lived) had written but also started investigating her contemporaneous authors who were popping up in the same conversations. So after I read Alice Sheldon I read Joanna Russ and then Ursula Le Guin and before too long I realised that it'd been ages since I'd read anything that wasn't science fiction written by female authors. there wasn't really any decision or choice involved, there was just a sense this was something I'd be spending the rest of my life doing. and sure enough eight years later I am still doing that, and I have never run out of things that I'm excited to read. I will confess that I never get tired of how confused and agitated male science fiction fans can get when they learn that I deliberately avoid and ignore male science fiction authors. I have learned a lot about how to find the kind of books I want to find with methods that don't involve relying on search engines, and also just about what it means to maintain a personal digital library about an area that I have an intense interest in. Alice Sheldon is still my favourite author ever

also like I'm sorry but I'm not going to believe that this outrage everyone's having that the games industry doesn't want them to own the games that they play is going to amount to anything when most of the same group of people are probably demonstrably happy to not own the music they listen to or the television that they watch. I think you'll enjoy your collective little We The Gamers moment then very quickly get used to treating gaming the way you treat netflix and spotify and wonder how on earth those people who own their own media libraries manage it all.

If you can wear underwear and shoes and shirts and pants and jewelry and makeup, you can wear a mask. Sensory issues don't change the fact you have to protect your body from the elements and that you can adapt. It's a poor excuse against not wearing a respirator (especially in higher-risk scenarios), and if you think a mask is uncomfortable, just wait until you end up with post-viral sequelae that give you phantom pain, breathing problems, or variable energy.

It's actually absurd that I've turned into someone who likes eggplant. I used to be certain I'd hate this vegetable until the day I die
