"But sugar is the best.” She can’t believe it. “You surely have to like some kind of sweet.”

"That I do know.” Nadia grew up in the Red Room. Her mother and father both died before she ever got the chance to meet them. Her brain attempts to sabotage her sometimes. There’s been a lot of tragedy in Nadia’s life, and it makes her work all the more harder to find happiness. “That being said, it is not all bad either.”

"I think you’re mean for no reason.” Nadia asserts. She knows that she’s not self-absorbed. “Why are you so angry?”

"I don’t think we’ve met before.” Nadia watches him reach into the bowl. “My name is Nadia.”

"Oh, I know.” She nods seriously. “Do you want to talk about it?”

“I don’t know, I think it would be cool to pick my brain.” Nadia’s brain isn’t always a nice place, but there’s a lot of good in it as well. “You will always be my Captain Marvel.”

“I love that.” It’s so romantic. Nadia isn’t interested in that herself, but she loves when it works out for other people. “No murder is good for you. You’re Sorcerer Supreme again, I heard. How is that?”

“No M&M’s, Mr. Lang? Is something wrong?”

With a serious expression, Nadia nods. “I cannot imagine it would be. You have to tell me: is true love’s kiss real? Did it really fix everything?” She’s a scientist. Nadia wasn’t raised on fairytales and has never put much stock into them. Something about it seems romantic, though. Maybe under all the science Nadia does care about romance. Only with other people, however. Her own self is far from geared towards liking anyone. “I am well. I’ve been spending time with Jan recently and working with G.I.R.L. There’s certainly been no murder.”

“Oh, yes. Your variant. I haven’t met her yet. Did you know I lack a proper variant in that reality? The closest I have is Hope. She’s my father’s daughter with Jan, not my mother. Reality is weird. I love it.”

“Maybe they’re just out of sight. I don’t know.” Nadia shrugs. “See, now I want some. Is there anywhere nearby?” 

“Everyone says I talk too much.” They’d been saying it her entire life. Back in the Red Room, her chatter had been a problem. Curb your tongue, Nadia. Quiet, Nadia. Silence. She’d heard it all but couldn’t help herself. “What I am trying to say is yes, it’s about you. Kind of.”

“No, but it does seem to be a recurring theme in movies. Maybe that’s because it’s true.”

“I may be the least patronizing person you will ever meet.” Nadia isn’t even sure she knows how to be. “Jan has to deal with them. She says they’re...well, she uses words I don’t want to repeat.”

Nadia’s face crumbles slightly. “I don’t want to ruin anyone’s fun. I happen to be fun myself. I just like science.”
