I do like thinking about both Aster and Warren learning how to negotiate with the other. Aster asks for something? Warren is going to ask him what he’s willing to do to earn it. Aster has to negotiate his own assaults, his own pain down to something that is both manageable for him but still interesting enough for Warren to give him what he wants. But other times Warren wants something from Aster. He wants him to do something, he wants more personal information from him, and Aster knows that’s his chance to try and get something he’s been wanting out of him.
I do think Warren gets a shock collar for Aster. It’s not as. Extreme as the kind Zander was subjected to, which was more intended to subdue and incapacitate him, while Warren just thinks it’s unbearably cute to watch Aster briefly seize in pain. He doesn’t make him wear it all the time but Aster absolutely dreads when he does have to wear it.

Aster’s friends think he’s sweet, lovable, and overall a joy to be around <3 He’s kind, generous, always ready to be there for them, they think he’s a delight!
His family think he’s a ray of sunshine, a smart boy who has worked hard to get where he is despite his challenges in life. He’s deeply loved by his family, his mom and stepdad, his siblings, his aunts and uncles and cousins, all of them care so much for Aster.
12. Do they have any self-destructive habits?

Warren tries pretty hard to not do anything that would damage himself, his body, or his image (ignore the thing he’s doing to Aster right now). However when he gets really stressed he starts smoking cigarettes again, a habit he’s repeatedly tried to quit over the years only to go back to it again and again.
20. Will they recover from their trauma or will it consume them?

As far as Warren is concerned his trauma is a thing of the past that he simply doesn’t think about anymore. It has no bearing on him or his current life, in fact he prefers to think of the years before the house fire as simply something terrible that happened to somebody else, but not to him.
As far as the writer (me) is concerned, it is still to be determined justtt how much Warren’s past affects his present day and future behavior. But we’ll say it’s certainly more than Warren will accept it does.

Another thing about Aster is that he loves the outdoors. He loves walking through grass barefoot, he loves flowers, he loves being surrounded by trees. It very quickly tanks his mental health to be trapped in a basement without even a window to so much as see outside. I think Warren gets him some plants and lights that’ll keep them alive.
