This has to be the weirdest shit I’ve seen from a Hobie Brown “fan” I’ve ever seen. Idk if y’all get off on deliberately mischaracterizing him but it’s so fucking weird to see y’all treat a black punk character like this. Hey there! I’m very sorry for the harm this piece caused.
My intention with including this quote was a light hearted take on the scene from “SLC Punk”, where Stevo (the character in the back) talks about the British and the American punk culture in the context of posers.
I do know and admit that I don’t know enough about punk culture, let alone the black history of it all. But you made me dig a little deeper and now I know a bit more and I’m genuinely thankful for that.
I understand that it wasn’t a good idea to put this quote there, and I apologise for that. And I also understand if you don’t believe me, when I say that I genuinely didn’t think about this issue when I decided to draw them together.
I don’t know if I should take it down or not, but I’m glad I got to clarify this, and I’m very disappointed in myself that I didn’t put my artwork in context.
Well considering that the fact that Stevo is a white man it’s very easy for him to say who cares about who started punk considering how often black people never get credited for the works they created and how often whites claim ownership of it. 💀 I mean I really don’t get how you saw this quote and was like “this will fit Hobie (the character who’s black before he’s punk and everything else) real nice.”
