this entire album was astonishing. unfortunately only the first track is freely available online
“Hafez Modirzadeh offers an extensive explanation of “liberation convergence” in the liner notes to his latest album. To paraphrase, he calls this principle “consciousness gravitating toward a point of supreme balance, where all fear of extinction is removed.” The saxophonist-composer goes on to explain the various source materials he used to create these suites, including poems from 13th-century Persia and 14th-century Spain, Mexican literature and motifs from Beethoven. Modirzadeh, who retuned a piano to play Persian temperaments on his last album, is clearly someone who commits to a concept, and if his description sounds academic, this music is quite the opposite.”
not actually the whole album but it’s weirdly hard to find the tracks I specifically wanted to post. extremely beautiful and more than worth hearing
DOLORES DEI - "In conclusion -- you're ill. You're an old, insane man. And you have to be in hell until the end of your life. And I have to go to Mirova."
been trying to word this for awhile, but like the thing about the discolikes from the goons who stole it (zero parades, that godawful night shit comic prologue) is that it’s not just poorly written hacky misogynistic bullshit. it feels…spiritually sickening to me, in a way. it makes me honestly angry. on a level beyond the injustice of the ip theft.
because this are what these writers think Disco Elysium is.
they think it’s needlessly crass and vulgar for no reason, devoid of empathy, of passion. they think it’s crude edginess for the sake of edginess. where Disco feels honest to the perspective of anyone who has ever been truly truly desperate they simply see a freakshow. 'let’s describe a 16 year old's genitals because it’s SHOCKING.'
Disco made me feel seen and understood as a human being. these projects make me feel even more alienated because they remind me that a team of brilliant writers can depict the horrible truth of disability and desperation under capitalism but they can’t make the audience care or understand.

gonna do a bit of good old kvetching on the internet because i got yet another "oh... ok" sort of reaction from a successful white girl when i talked (briefly and jokingly) about my sleep schedule. now: my sleep schedule is fucked by normal standards; it has always been fucked, whether i had a 9-5 or full-time school or completely self-structured responsibilities; it was fucked before i was medicated for my mental health and it's still fucked now that i am.
there are a lot of reasons for this, hard-wired & learned behavior, voluntary & involuntary. i'm totally functional which is the important thing, but i can still feel unbelievably shitty about it when confronted by someone who has always kept normal hours, without effort, and has learned to see 'abnormal' hours as somehow dubious (reserved perhaps for sex workers, addicts, night security guards, casino bouncers and other persons of ill repute). a sense of "wasting the day" or "lacking discipline".
it rubs up against that very ancient adhd bruise of being considered like, biologically engineered to be a loser. you get middling grades because you don't turn in work (because you can't really conceptualise the deadline, or you forget as soon as you leave the classroom). you get up after noon and go to sleep at crackhead hours; you're always nursing a strong coffee in the morning at work. it's a joke. you're not a morning person. this is all you'll ever be is a lazy C-student who shuns the sunrise like a vampire (that one gets a couple of laughs too, try it out)
but the thing is, like. it turns out i am smart as fuck, a competent writer and critical thinker (always room for improvement but yk), a quick study, a careful reader, and most importantly curious, and social, and resourceful and stubborn. i'm on the point of getting my [censored as not to tempt the evil eye] for fuck's sake and if all goes well it won't be the last one either. how many markers of success do i gather before it stops mattering that i sleep like a medieval peasant?* do i stop being lazy and undisciplined—or plain weird—if and when i get a doctorate? when my monograph comes out? when i'm a keynote speaker? when i put down for a house with my shitty academia paycheck? when??
this is not even skimming the other unsavory habits you can develop coping with chronic mood/executive problems. that's a can of worms for another time and place (read: my therapist's office, lol)
*i know the so-called biphasic sleep schedule of medieval peasants has been mostly debunked, just making a point

is there a way to do water flossing but without the water. the water sucks. can we do like very finely tuned sonic pulses instead. water reservoir runs out in like 30 seconds and if you turn the thing 2° the wrong way it goes PHHBBTBBHHTFFHTHTH directly into your face and eyes. but it does feel nice in the same way getting a professional cleaning feels nice.

if we keep making internet memes into feature films i want one based on the SCP where they figure out how to revive a guy and he comes back and tells the scientists that death is conscious unbearable agony, forever, and then everyone mindwipes themselves because. cognitohazard. mass chaos etc
whenever my sense of self worth flags i remember that i exist specifically because someone (my mom) wanted very badly for me to exist. a quarter of a century later we take up seats in a busy café for a whole afternoon on just one coffee each (and also steal the little cookies from people who left without eating theirs), and she looks at me and says "isn't it nice how we never run out of things to talk about?"
