I wish the writers of Pose (2018) leaned LESS on Ricky being a very sexual person. I wish the writers expanded on that trait of his character into something more than a boyfriend.

I wish Ricky’s character could have platonic familial relationships that didn’t devolve or revolve around romantic ones. I wish Ricky had mentors who invites Ricky to see them as family.

I wish it was more blatant that Ricky’s character became less and less of Damon’s parallel. I wish Ricky had more stories that highlights his role within his community and how he has support from his community.

I’m not trying to compete two characters who are Black gay young men against each other, I’m just comparing and contrasting them and it’s so clear the writing doesn’t want to expound on Ricky’s character besides a sexy, impulsive lover.

I received spoilers that even the blossoming mentor-mentee relationship with Pay Tell will end up with them being a couple and I wish the writing didn’t do that.

I wish Pay Tell would call off Ricky’s lover escapades, make him sit down and ask why Ricky’s doing all of this. Why would he cheat? Why would he be careless with sex? And I wish the writing gave a deeper reason than ‘Ricky is young and impulsive’

The writing could have made a storyline where Ricky confides with Pay Tell and Ricky tells him if don’t do these sexual acts, what will people want from him? Like, let the writing explore and expound on Ricky’s psyche and way of thinking and his fears!

Let there be a story that explores this Black Gay young man with a dark skin complexion who internalized the toxic idea that people that look him has to exist and fit in certain boxes and stereotypes in order to be seen.

Additionally, let Pay Tell remind Ricky, he is someone worthy of love, care, and attention even when he isn’t flirting or playing up the lover role.

This may also be a hot take, but I kinda wish Ricky’s interests changed with time. For example, he moves away from dancing (perhaps bcs the activity reminds him too much of Damon) and he goes to Pay Tell about his predicament. Another Episode Idea! Pay Tell recommends and helps Ricky find hobbies outside of dancing! Ricky tries out making clothes and outfits, he gets more involved in activism in his own way outside of the houses of Evangelista and Wintor, and, my favorite idea, he tries out Pay Tell’s Emcee role and Ricky genuinely enjoys it!!
