In summary he’s an ornithologist who really struggles to fit into the scientific circles, so naturally he’s beefing with them. He wants to become and adventurer and set off to distant lands in order to study birds, but that didn’t work out. So instead he joined a gang. Is he a good outlaw? No. Can he shoot well? No? Can he at least ride horses good? No, not really. But he’s entertaining and is very good at exploring and surveying the surroundings, so he can stay. Plus he brings trinkets.
