I had this au swirling around in my head that the radiance and the infection was a hive mind given the right parameters and permissions from the Radiance. When she finds broken vessel dead in the cave she decides to connect broken vessel and THK via the infection and uses Broken vessel to break (hah) THK more. She points to broken vessel as an example of the pale king's behavior of his preferences and favoritism to THK. While THK is serving his heroic "sacrifice" for hollow nest, other vessels, other siblings, are left die alone in a cave after barely escaping the abyss. The radiance also uses Broken vessel to glorify herself, the infection breathes life in husks that would otherwise be dead, she is redeeming the beings that were previously only temporary creations of the pale king.
Anyways broken vessel and THK are infected besties and trauma bond together
I read this epic SoC fic where everyone is commonly referred to as their nickname and only your soulmate knows your real name.
And like. What if KoTLC. What if FedEx.
Dex calling Fitz ‘Wonderboy’ because most people call him something pretentious like ‘Prodigy’ or ‘Telepath’.
He heard a customer call him ‘boy-wonder’ once and thought of ‘Wonder-boy’ as a counter to that.
Kind of stupid, but he was seven and it stuck.
Dex slowly tolerating Fitz’s presence but not dropping the nickname.
Soulmates are more likely to know each other’s real name in times of danger.
Dex only lets his family call him Dex.
He tried to get the rest of them to call him something cool.
Sophie called him ginger by accident.
It stuck, unfortunately.
After manifesting, he managed to get people to start calling him Techno.
It’s better than Ginger.
This leads to Wonderboy and Sparkle (to close friends - anyone other than Dex or Sophie calling her is just not allowed) not actually knowing Dex’s real name.
Dex doesn’t really mind. He doesn’t think he’ll know any of their real names.
Sophie thinks the whole nickname thing is bullshit so she makes everyone just call her Sophie.
Sunshine keeps one trying to get people to call him Hunkyhair.
No one does it.
But Sophie saw his art and started calling him Leonardo.
Leo for short.
Dex has a circle of friends by Neverseen - Sophie, Leo, Sparkle, and Wonderboy.
He tolerates Wonderboy.
Up until the Exile incident.
Up until the arthopluera and the gadget and Fitz bleeding
Hold on.
Fitz.
Where did that come from?
Dex getting Fitz back and trying not to panic.
Dex biting his tongue and looking over as Physic works on Fitz.
Fitz. Wonderboy.
His soulmate.
Soulmates are a weird thing. If Fitz was his soulmate, that would mean he was Fitz’s. He wishes that weren’t the case.
But he looks upon the other boy and takes him in.
He looks at Fitz, really looks at him.
Looks at his fluffy brown hair and bare chest and thinks about how Wonderboy wasn’t pretentious or snobby when you got to know him.
He was… kinda nice actually.
Clever.
Brave.
Funny in a weird way.
He could have a worse soulmate, he thinks.
And he rides on that brief elation before remembering reality.
Fitz can never know. He can never know that he’s destined by the universe to end up with a boy, the son of a bad match. It would ruin him, his family, probably Dex. Bad matches are already looked down upon, and same-sex couples have it even worse. Fitz can’t know. If they’re lucky, he never will.
He can’t tell anyone.
And he doesn’t. For a really long time.
He tries to move on. Pursue his brief crush on Sophie.
When she tells him it’ll never work out, he sighs and one comment
one quick comment

I know that.
He claps his hand over his mouth.
Sophie raises her eyebrows.

Dex can’t tell her. She’s head over heels for Fitz. She’s exactly what he deserves.
But he can tell her something. No need for specifics.

And he’s crying, and Sophie hugs him, and he realises how long he’s been holding this in.
It’s nice to talk to someone.
And Dex sighs mentally every time he sees Fitz and bites his tongue to prevent the name from slipping out.
It was months, years even, before Sophie came to his house.
We broke up
she tells Dex.
Dex furrows his brows.
I’m sor-
He wants his soulmate. I know I’m not his and I told him so and I told him that I knew who it was and I couldn’t tell him so
She drew herself up.
Dex blinks, words registering
She knows
She figured it out
She didn’t tell him
You have to keep it a secret
Dex tells her, and she promises
How? He asks her.
How did she know what he had kept so carefully hidden all these years?
And she just smiled.

It is in the middle of lunch when it slips.
They are talking, debating about something, something about the Black Swan and Keefe
Fitz breaks him out of his stupor.

Dex nods.

Fitz launches into an explanation about the plan when Shadow stops him.
What did you say to him?
The whole lunch table stares at the two of them.
Fitz looks confused.
Sophie taps his shoulder.
You just called him Dex.
Dex feels his heart plummet.
It’s out. He didn’t even last three years keeping it a secret, how did he expect an eternity?
Fitz looks at him, and he knows that they’re soulmates. He knows that Dex knows that they’re soulmates.
And Dex excuses himself and runs.
Fitz finds him sitting in an abandoned classroom, head on the desk, contemplating his life choices.
He asks him how long he’s known.
And the whole story pours out of Dex’s mouth, again, and this time he can tell it straight (the irony)

I’ve said “I hate this” so many times on this website, and never actually meant it, because “I hate this” is just shorthand for ‘this is an example of a meme given a twist I wasn’t expecting with intent to surprise’. Which is, in of itself, a meme on this site. God damn it.
But this… This is something else.
The rapidity of a meme’s introduction to its zenith to its decline is so rapid that in ten years, you’ll need a damn twenty-page manual to explain this. It’ll be as unfunny and hard to explain as jokes in Shakespeare plays, except even more inexplicable because fuck, at least Shakespeare’s jokes are usually about anal or fucking your mother, good wholesome sex jokes we can all get behind.

ok let me see if i can break this down easily. YMCA is the easiest place to start - the song itself has become a meme over time with people changing the lyrics to reference other pop cultural events. so YMCA is meme one (1)
this first lyric replacement (”take the breadsticks and run”) is a reference to the tumblr meme ‘stuffing breadsticks into my purse’. i think everyone remembers that one so i wont bother to explain it. that’s meme two (2)
“man door hand hook car door” is a meme of its own, a creepypasta from i dont remember when. it was a terrible stupid retelling of the generic ‘stuck in a car while hook handed man tries to kill us’ story so the stupid title caught on for memorability. that in and of itself is meme three (3)
‘gun’ is… yeah i dont know how to explain gun. long story short you add gun to the end of a phrase instead of what you expect the last word to be. its shock funny. its everywhere but its popular to add to “man door hand hook car door” for.. some reason? gun is meme four (4)
and the thing is, this four meme combo is something thats gone around before. meme combos are, itself, a meme. which means taking this meme combo and mixing in another meme actually becomes meme five (5)
which leaves us at loss.jpg. loss.jpg was a terrible bad comic supposed to be about some tragic event, but it was presented so poorly literally no one takes it seriously, and for some reason recreating the four-panel setup has become popular. so thats meme six (6)
(but i need to add that this is the greatest version of loss.jpg i think i’ve ever seen. the initial ‘young man’ lines up with the guy bursting through the door, and the shock meme ‘gun’ matches the shock scene of the woman in the hospital and idk if OP even thought about that but it makes this just so much better)
it might also just be a coincidence due to loss.jpg’s format but the whole white minimalist four-panel setup is also suspiciously reminiscent of those early 2000’s rage comics
