Thinking about Robert being that little, I mean barely even five years old, and going through such a horrible thing really breaks my heart. Like he’s awful now, but at that point, he was just a baby, he didn’t deserve to go through that.

Anthony definitely did not care for Robert in the way he needed, and how could he? Anthony has likely been mentally fucked since birth, of course he wasn’t in his right mind to essentially father a child when he was probably a teenager. It doesn’t make it right how things turned out, though.

I’ve bounced between opinions on Robert’s childhood a lot. Did a distant family member care for him? Foster care? Anthony? Whatever it was, I don’t think it was good enough. This is a kid who needed all the care a regular kid needs, plus triple that, because of the mental stress. It’s uncomfortable to think about, but I agree with you on a lot of those things you mentioned, ie the tantrums, the emotional outbursts, issues with potty training, etc. children with severe stress go through those things, it’s awful, but it happens. I saw a couple kids in school act exactly like this with horrible home lives.
