I was genuinely floored to learn that when Americans talk about "respecting Veterans" or getting a "Veteran's discount" or whatever the fuck they aren't talking about disabled old men who fought in the Second World War, they're talking about like. War criminals???? Vietnam, Iraq, things of that nature????? Like, in the UK you rarely get the occasional weirdo who wants to throw their support behind the people who did war crimes in Ireland but when you talk about veterans here the first thought is always old guys. Which, sure, it's still definitely worth interrogating how that kind of reverence can and has been used as a propaganda tool but it's radically more reasonable on the face of it than whatever America is doing.

Wrote a calm and quite frankly very charitable mini-essay on the Deltarune subreddit about how it isn't wrong to "misgender" Ralsei by using she/her. It got deleted within 5 minutes, barely enough time to read the thing over properly assuming they saw it the literal second it went up. I wasn't given a reason and it broke no rules. Dozens of posts about how "misgendering" Ralsei is wrong are still up and doing numbers. Transmisogyny in a predominantly queer space, who could have seen that one coming?

She/her on Ralsei is now officially banned on the subreddit. You can still discuss "trans Ralsei theory" but you can't use she/her pronouns while doing it. On the announcement post they said it was so that they didn't potentially "invalidate femboy identities". The announcement is deleted now but it's still the rule as far I'm aware

Okay update: They've reversed the rule but the fandom isn't happy about it

I think there's something to be said about how the word pretentious has slowly shifted in definition from "having a perception of heightened importance or intelligence compared to what you are actually presenting" to now meaning "trying to say anything of substance or think about anything deeply at all in any capacity".

It's so embarrassing to tell people you like video games because people hear that and immediately assume you're a capital G Gamer who buys the new COD day 1 and hates women and it's just like.
