Can AI replace a dev. or line editor? Every now and then, someone asks me if I’m afraid AI will take my job. But my answer to the question “Can AI replace a developmental or line editor?” is always no. Why? Because developmental and line edits require judgement calls. In both cases, good editing isn’t a matter of applying “the rules” or forcing a text to comply with a pre-established pattern, which is all AI can really do.
