“I’m okay, yeah. It was terrible to be there and not be able to do anything to stop it, but we’re all back now right? Maybe it’s best to not think about it too much.”

“Food is always a comfort during tough times. Whatever you want, it is on the house.” Frenchie poked a finger into the menu on the table and slid it over within reach.

Daisy’s head tilted like that as she paused to look up at She-Hulk’s towering form. As much as she didn’t want to think about what would happen if S.H.I.E.L.D. decided to go forward with charges of espionage against her. Helping Nat leak all of the dossiers was definitely necessary in getting everyone out, but she had a feeling they wouldn’t see it that way. Her forced leave was evidence enough of that. “I think I might take you up on that, actually. S.H.I.E.L.D.’s not too happy with me. And I’ve been looking up what they could decide to charge me with and it’s not good. Ten years in prison not good.”

“That sounds like a band name. A bad one, but still.” Clint snorted softly, but his humor faded when Jen mentioned that she’d been threatened by Fontaine. It wasn’t necessarily a shock, but he still rolled his eyes anyways as he scoffed. “Of course it is. I’m sure they all practically signed their lives away to get on that roster.” Valentina seemed like the type to include incredibly fine print that mentioned giving your left kidney for the team or something else equally ridiculous. Her vibes were intense, from what Clint had seen. “We’ve been doing good. I just got done filming a commercial for my new IPA, Arrowhead.” Clint wished he was joking there. Cage was going a bit overboard with the branding, that was for sure. “You know, I might take you up on that.”

hunter takes a seat as jen speaks, demeanor defeated but still pensive, “i don’t like being this out of the loop.” first they’re kidnapped without notice, then they’re rescued, but now their mental status is being monitored, and everything’s being kept a bit too secret for hunter’s liking.

“yeah, but then they took my –– they took -” hunter throws up his hands, frustrated, “they took bobbi. and she’s the furthest thing from a criminal, believe me. they took her and turned her into a bloody lab rat.”

Stephen’s lips parted to try and respond to that, but it fell flat as he just shrugged a shoulder at her. “While I appreciate the enthusiasm, I’m not sure there’s much to smash through here. Not yet, anyways.” He really, really hoped that things didn’t escalate to that point, but it was clear the mutants were less than pleased recently. It seemed to be only a matter of time before they lashed out.

“Hell yeah you do.” Daisy gave a half-hearted smile towards the lawyer at that, the heavy conversation ahead of them weighing her down from giving the a full grin as she sighed. “I’m just gonna be honest with you, I did some pretty illegal shit to take that town down. I just wanna be sure I’m covering my bases here. The Director of my reality’s shield has vouched for me to keep my job.” Not that she really wanted it anymore anyways, but she was still hung up on what to do about that. The first focus was making sure Hill didn’t try to come after her.

Marc didn’t think she was being serious, but then she doubled down and he huffed out a frustrated sigh and looked down to the sidewalk, feeling like his vision was blurring for a bit before a voice that wasn’t his own spoke up, sounding desperate. “That’s rubbish and you know it, Marc. Please, don’t listen to him! He’s a bloody idiot— No I’m not. Fuck, Steven, stop—” 

“Two S.H.I.E.L.D.’s, two Avengers, two Thunderbolts, it’s all a giant headache. Thankfully our iteration of the team is vastly different from hers. The opposite, actually.”

Marc would have given her the same cold shoulder if she’d asked him this a few weeks ago, but after the very real consequences of his current wanted status punched him in the face back there, he didn’t even hesitate as he nodded at the smaller woman in front of him. He couldn’t risk S.H.I.E.L.D. handing his information back over to Interpol. They’d probably extradite him back to Egypt, and the thought of Steven having to go through that for something he didn’t even do? Of Layla having to put up with it? “Okay, okay. I’d like to be a client of yours. Please.”

“That guy doesn’t seem like he could hurt a fly.” There was a frog pun in there somewhere, but Rachel was too lazy to find it. “Have you had any other wacko clients now that you’re in New York?”

Matt nearly flinched at the concern in her voice, but he braced himself as he leaned back to sit up with his shoulders. His gaze was towards the ceiling now as he took a deep breath and exhaled slowly, not even sure where to begin. There was no easy way to say any of it, no easy way to unload all of this onto Jen. She didn’t deserve it, but he wanted to do it on his own terms, not let Elektra handle it for him if she did come waltzing back to town. “It’s… more like a crazy ex-girlfriend. An undead one.” Of all things to come out of his mouth, he hadn’t been expecting that. He was immediately starting the damage control to fill the silence between them. “I’m not even sure if she’s alive. She was resurrected once before, and she wasn’t herself afterwards. And then she died— again.” Pinching the bridge of his nose, Matt closed his eyes tightly for a moment before he opened them and turned his face towards Jen again. “Feel free to tell me this is too much and leave. Quite frankly, I wouldn’t blame you.”

“It was a compliment?” Drax replied confused. “You are wise for surrounding yourself in such a revolting musk. It’s a great way to keep predators away. Like those black and white things… The Skoonch! That’s what they are!”

Listening as Jennifer made her way to the kitchen, Matt stayed in his spot on the bed and kept his gaze down towards the direction of the sheets. There was no doubts in his mind that he needed to tell her about Elektra, he knew that, but he really wished that he could just skip past that entire suitcase of baggage and keep things the way they were. It wouldn’t be fair to her though if somehow Elektra really wasn’t dead and showed up at his apartment one night, or worse and equally as likely, GLK&H. She’d probably want to scope Jen out, which had him feeling protective of what he had. What he built after Elektra nearly tore his entire life down. Jen returned to the bed and he grimaced quietly as he placed the ice pack from her onto his side. But the pain wasn’t the only reason he was grimacing. “What if I told you it was worse?” His voice was quiet, hesitant as he sighed. “It is personal, but unfortunately it’ll involve you too.” If she was alive.
