Not Done Yet

Okay, let me explain this photo. This is not my child. I was at the rock gym on the bouldering walls for a bit last night. I was tired and sore already. I decided to go a couple more routes, but easy peasy ones I wouldn’t struggle through too much. 

So I walked over to this route (the yellow one) and this little girl ran up and started climbing. She was great, nimble, fearless and she got right up there.  As she was climbing her dad came over. Obviously a very fit and likely very experienced climber (I’d seen some of the routes he’d been on) I joked with him, “your daughter makes me feel pretty crap about myself” he smiled, obviously very proud of her. But he said, quite seriously, “all the kids in here make all of us feel “bad” about ourselves, but look how happy they are. They also remind us why we climb. 

I’m back at the rock gym, FINALLY, and excited to get going again. 

Big news is Sunday my Accomplice leaves for a 350 mile snow bike race across part of the Iditarod Trail. He’ll be gone 3-5 days, depending on the conditions. I’d guess 4, with the snow we’ve had. 

We just realized this will be the first time that we haven’t at least talked in the years we’ve been together. When one of us travels we talk, or at minimum text (at the beginning of our relationship) every single day. Mostly I’ll be watching his little gps tracker on the race course and hope he’s as near the front of the pack as he wants to be. 

Jan, Day 11. I’ve finished 3 books this year, thus far. This will be my first year ever tracking the books I read. So I figured I’d put something here. 

First was The Girl with all the Gifts by M.R. Carey. 

It took a while for me to “get into it” and if I’d had to rate it on a scale of 1-5 it would have been a solid 3. Not much Character development, but a fresh new twist on the whole Zombie-pocolypse theme, which I enjoyed. But then the last 100 pages shifted all that for me, I couldn’t put it down and the ending was MUCH better than I’d imagined it could be. Solid 4 stars. 

Next up, I’ve been watching The 100 on Netflix and really enjoying the series. Then I had a bright light pop up in my head... probably book based, right? Yup. Based off a YA series by Kass Morgan. I love me my YA books, so what the heck. 

I’ve finished books 1 and 2 and heading off to read 3 & 4 next. 

Short, quick reads. If you’ve seen the series, the characters are different, to a point, and that’s part of what sucks me in. “how are they going to do this, or why did they change that, and omg... that makes sense now” Normally that sort of stuff bothers me, comparing film to book. But not this time, they are both fun and well written, if a little over dramatic. Typical teenage fickleness and loves to end all loves... but that’s part and parcel to reading YA novels. 

Solid 4 stars on both books. I hope the next two hold up. I’ll probably finish both of them before I finish the netflix series.
