Let me take a minute to explain why I love TK Strand so damn much it hurts. It’s not because of the hot as sin relationship that he has with Carlos (tho it sure don’t hurt). It’s because he’s so damn affectionate with his dad and teammates. Hear me out for a second. How often do we see male characters in TV shows be soft and snuggly with other male characters they aren’t romantically involved with? Not too often that’s for sure. But then along comes TK Strand and in episode one he pulls this little stunt and boom my heart explodes!
He full on clunks his face down on his dad’s shoulder in the middle of a crowded bar, just like that! It’s not often that a show portrays a father son relationship in this way. So often we see limited physical contact between fathers and sons and it’s so damn refreshing to finally have a show portray a father son relationship where neither has any problem physically reaching out to the other for comfort. It shows a change in the way people view the relationship between fathers and sons. Society tends to teach boys to repress their feelings and be strong in the face of adversity, which turns them into men who are unable to properly express their emotions. Lone Star is having none of that bullshit.
Look
At all
The
Hugging!!
I can’t deal, my soul can’t deal. And not only do they give us a healthy father son relationship, they give us a healthy relationship between TK and other male characters. Sure he and Judd start off rocky but they settle into their brother roles pretty fast after that. Judd’s little speech about his crew dying and being scared to lose TK, and then TK’s response of “you can’t call me the coach’s kid anymore because you are too”... I am 100% here for it. Then we get this little gem,
Everyone else just hugs TK like a normal person but Judd goes right for the head kiss like it’s no big deal and TK just goes with it. He’s so comfortable with his team and Judd that this doesn’t cause him to batt an eye. It’s amazing and beautiful and I can’t stop obsessing over the brotherly relationship that they have, but that’s a post for another time.
More hugging, with Paul this time, and I’m still here for it. TK deserves all the hugs ok? He’s been through hell and he deserves this physical comfort from his dad and his friends. TK might be a bad ass firefighter, but underneath it all he’s a squishy marshmallow who just wants to be loved and hugged and he makes the entire show for me.
Father/Son Relationship
Owen & TK Strand "My only priority right now is that you live."
“I owe you everything. You gave me the greatest gift that anyone ever could. You gave me a second chance, and the ability to start over"
“ All those times I got so mad at you for being a flake or telling me something I knew that had to be a lie… you were saving someone's life”.
