I'm not like Mad at anyone who does this and I'm obviously not in charge of how anyone else tags shit on their own blogs, whatever, but it's always bummed me out when my sex Ed posts get reblogged and tagged with 18+, minors dni, etc. personally I actually very much want teenagers to learn about their bodies and safer sex but I guess I'm just the guy who wrote the thing.

by and large I am not an angry man but once I watched a fellow sex educator present to a room full of college students and, upon being gently challenged by one of the students who objected to them describing sex as something that happens between adults, said with very palpable disdain "I don't want to talk about kids fucking." and I was so angry about it that I made myself nauseous.

not just teens, either. every couple years I give up my Sundays for a few months to teach sex ed to 4th-6th graders, unpaid. and I don't do it because it's always fun or easy or great for my health, I do it because those are human people with changing bodies and feelings who deserve to have someone who gives a shit take the time to talk honestly with them so that they might make less painful mistakes later.

#also like sex ed is so much more than just the sex part itself #like that's a huge part of it (and should be taught to eveyrone)#but there's so many things about sex ed that are important #even if the people recieving the education aren't having sex they will still benefit from learning about their bodies #and everything that comes with sex ed #and like tweens and teens are probably the people who need sex ed the most #we can't ignore that teens have sex too and this attitude of “sex ed is an adult thing” is so stupid

deluding myself into believing that actually the writers saw the undeserved hate audiences have been giving korra since the show and decided to play with it in seven havens. yeah. that one shot of her looking evil is going to turn out to be from the perspective of an unproven story about her. anti-korra propaganda became a huge issue by the end of her life and not even a final sacrifice could right her in the eyes of the public. right guys? guys? wait where are you going

People taking for granted that Korra pulled a full 180 in her character development and blew up the world is just… bizarre to me. Like, don’t get me wrong, from an In-Universe perspective it makes sense: after the Hundred Years War, people openly questioned the function of the Avatar in the wider world. Korra exploring and solidifying her identity as Korra was a major theme of her character arc, and each of her villains actively challenged her nature as the Avatar in different ways:

Amon contended with the very role and idea of Benders in a modern society.

Unalaq forced Korra to explore the role of the Avatar as the bridge between Humans and Spirits.

Zaheer and the Red Lotus openly targeted the notion of the Avatar as a stabilizing and unifying force on the international political stage.

And Kuvira showed us the idea of a Philosophically “Dark Avatar”, where Peace, Harmony, and Unity are enforced through the threat of violence.

More than that, each of them brings up a legitimate and recurring point via their existence: the Avatar cannot be everywhere at once, and it falls to the Five Nations to ultimately step up and take care of their own problems. Korra couldn’t fix the systemic rot in the Earth Kingdom, nor could she just punch every Bending Supremacist or Nonbender Revolutionary into submission. When Korra is absent (either on account of her youth, or on account of her illness) people often have mixed results, and most folks believe the Avatar will set things right.

So no, I don’t think we’re seeing “Evil Korra”. I think we’re seeing the apotheosis of a culture that saw the Avatar as both the person who should shoulder the responsibility of maintaining global peace, and the person who is responsible for when that peace falls apart. This Cataclysm, imho, was probably caused by the Four Nations not truly solving any of their problems and constantly deferring to the Avatar for that role.
