HE LITERALLY LIED ABOUT A FENNEL ALLERGY (SYDNEY MAKES A DISH WITH FENNEL S1EP1) SO HE COULD SEND OUT HIS OWN DISH

AND WHO DID IT GO TO ???? SYDNEY !!!!

but of course then he’s locked into the freezer of self-pity (both figuratively and literally) and when season three ensues sydney begins to fall out of love with carmy due to his lack of communication skills and loss of the connection they once had, especially during season 2. carmy at this point is too stuck in his own head to think about anything other than himself being what he believes to be a failure to even consider a relationship (especially after claire), but still finds himself subconsciously thinking about sydney and finding inspiration in her (his dish that resembles her polka-dot scarf).

when season 4 begins and carmy begins attempting to move forward (even more so after receiving some sort of closure with claire, though we can’t truly be sure because of the wedding scenes with them… sigh..), carmy begins to harness the respect and admiration he has for sydney and i believe this is when he really starts to fall in love with her for real.

so much so that he’s willing to give up everything he’s worked for so that she can be successful (“my kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulder” vibes, for real). to his disadvantage, sydney has been done dealing with his bullshit for MONTHS now. luckily we can still see her love for him peeking through such as moments in the “i appreciate you.” and “you’re supposed to be here!” scenes.

but still, her initial infatuation with him has faded. she knows his faults and has seen them on full display. he is just beginning to truly and fully appreciate all of her ambition, loyalty and talent. he is falling in love while she has fallen out of love.
