Three paragraphs describing a room doesn’t make it immersive.
One sharp, specific detail often does.
What does the room feel like? What detail reveals something about the character?
Cut what’s generic. Keep what’s meaningful.

Your Prologue Might Be The Problem
Be honest.
Is your prologue essential…
Or is it backstory you didn’t want to cut?
If the story truly starts in chapter one, consider letting it start there.
If someone skipped your prologue, would they still understand the story?
Repetition Isn’t Emphasis
If your character reminds us five times that they’re broken it doesn’t deepen the emotion.
It flattens it.
Trust the scene. Trust subtext. Let actions carry the weight.
Ask yourself:
Did I show this once in a powerful way or did I keep saying it just to make sure?
