I really have no words for how I feel right now, but I’m going to try to get something down here, if for no other reason than the fact that I know you all have been supporting Izzy and me through all of this and you’ll want to know… She’s gone. She crossed the rainbow bridge this morning, by my side, where she loved to be. I don’t how exactly how it came to this, but in the end, it doesn’t matter. Izzy has been my constant companion since 2009, when she meowed and reached her paw out to me that day at a PetSmart adoption event for Forgotten Cats. Though she didn’t love being held, she was a social butterfly and always a snuggler. I always said that she wanted to be a dog, loyally following me around the house. She tolerated costumes, having her nails clipped at home, being “worn” in Andrew’s shirt and just wanted to be the center of my universe. And she was. She wasn’t into catnip or treats, but sure loved to eat her food! When COVID hit, she was my constant lockdown buddy, joining me for sit-ups and push-ups during virtual fitness classes. She’d watch me sing online karaoke, and she showed her trust in me by crawling under me when I planked, and forced me to stay strong a little bit longer. I can plank for a really long time now! She was an indoor cat, so she used her hunting instincts to catch bugs around the house. I would option think she was a bit senile, chasing nothing… and then I’d find a big, dead camel cricket, left as a trophy in the middle of the living room. Good job, Izzy! Every night until she grew ill this past week, she went upstairs and snuggled with me before I fell asleep, and even when she grew very weak, she found a way to pull herself part way up to the landing so she could hear when I woke up. She was in pain this morning, and I didn’t know what to do. I took the morning off work and sat with her and told her if she needed to go it was OK. I was with her when she breathed her last breath, which is how we both wanted it - I know that. She was the best kitty and I’ll love her forever.
