i forget which activism ig account, but i remember one of them posted a question, how people who read fiction such as Harry Potter and Hunger Games can't realize fascism and colonialism affect the world and their life?
i liked that post, then some times later there's another reel from another content creator that answer that question
she said many things about it, but i remember she said eventho fiction tells about struggle to fight greed and power, its story is usually heavy on main characters
the hero, the villain, and that's why it's hard to make it relevant irl
and that's why it's still hard to create impactful movements to outnumber oligarchies when we still wait "someone" to lead us, we ought to sacrifice "someone" to be a hero, when the reality needs everybody to move together
furthermore, our real world only have a puppet on public to hide the system of oligarchy, the "villain" we know, the one who we want to overthrow will get overthrown eventually, but that's not the end, greed still persist and we only change the puppet anw
i liked that post too, i know she made that content to critique people's naivety
but i know humans already depend on fiction stories to get on with real life for so long, deep down we know the struggle irl will never end
the final conclusion in fiction stories help us to imagine that good virtue will win over the evil greed and "happily ever after" is a gift, the only option to feel that is through fiction, right?
and for some reason, i think the easiest way to explain the concept of inequality to people who don't experience it is through fiction stories
fiction grows empathy in humans if it gets digested "correctly", it will be more than just a way to escape from reality i hope
so yeah, a note to myself, please read more fiction, please
