i feel like whenever people discuss hatsune mikus age its always either "hatsune miku is literally 16 you cant treat her like an adult" or "hatsune miku is a piece of software with no thoughts or feelings you can do whatever" but never the imo more interesting "hatsune miku is a marketing mascot designed to be a virtual idol, what does it say about the idol industry that the people involved considered 16 to be the perfect age to assign her. why do so many vtubers played by adult women have 16 on their profile. why are so many idol anime about highschoolers. can we talk about the contexts and implications please please please please-"
and this isnt a "japan bad lol" thing theres so many characters out there who are functionally treated as adults but designated to be in their late teens. i think the oldest (official) disney princess is like. 21. its a feature of how society at large treats 16-25 as the only viable window of attractiveness yknow. the dicaprio problem. its everywhere once you look for it unfortunately and even characters i love are not exempt from reflecting the bias.
I think part of getting better is complete ego death. Like youāre not above setting a timer for 5 minutes and focusing on a task. Youāre not above doing a very simple 3 minute workout to start. Youāre not above reading for 10 minutes a day when you first get out of your reading slump, even if you used to read for hours. Youāre not above starting slow and then building up to where you want to be/where you once were. What you are above is total inertia. Doing something really is better than doing nothing. Radically accept where you are, radically accept your limits, and go from there. Donāt let your ego get in the way.
the issue with growing up in the 2000s and 2010s was like there was this really big push toward "accepting your weirdness" overall but they meant like idk wearing mismatched socks or something not being tangibly beyond the norm in any way shape or form
tragedy enjoyers when a character upholds the system that they themselves were a victim of

People on Tumblr love sharing information about themselves no matter how asinine it is. And I'm the same way. Everybody tell me what the last thing you drank was.
you've heard of "he would not fucking say that" now get ready for "he would not be that comfortable with his own sexuality"

I think Joan of Arc's fursona would be a dog called Joan of Bark, but my partner thinks it would be a phoenix, which seems insensitive to me, but neither of us are furries, so I guess we don't really get a say either way.
I promise Iām not trying to be pretentious here. Jeanne dāArcās last name is dāArc.Ā An overly-literal translator insisted it stood for āof Arcā, and thatās why we know her as Joan of Arc.Ā At the time, she was more commonly known as āJeanne la Pucelleā, meaning āJoan the Maidenā or āJoan the Virginā.
anyways since her main attack strategy was āhit them until they stop movingā I think sheād be a gorilla.
*taking notes* What else do you know about this beautiful world?
yeah yeah rainbow capitalism is bad and whatever but like. when I was a child, being pro gay was not the popular or lucrative choice. I'm happy that times have changed.
I miss rainbow capitalism. I do. I miss when it felt like public opinion was still pro gay. I understand it was always an empty gesture, but it mattered in a sense of knowing how socially acceptable being queer is. If that makes sense.
It was always a thermometer, not a thermostat, and Iām begging people to understand that.
A lot of us are old enough to remember when a company risked mass boycotts and organized campaigns for daring to sponsor a Pride or LGBT+ event. A lot of us are old enough to remember when you could not find Pride flags or other rainbow items for sale in mainstream stores anywhere. What changed was that companies felt the LGBT+ community was worth selling to, worth publicly standing behind and worth acknowledging. And now that's changed again for many companies, which is a canary in the coal mine that should concern all of us.
Minnesotaās Giant Rainbow and Leather Pride Flags
June 28, 1998. Both flags measured approximately 50 feet wide and 75 feet long.
Friendly reminder that the leather flag predates almost every other flag. We owe this community to leather daddies and kinksters
In the era of corporate sanitization never forget it was leather daddies and S&M folks who protected some of the earliest pride parades.

call me terminally academia-brained but i do think a lot of the fun of character analysis is figuring out how to build a compelling argument for a particular reading using lines of evidence from canon as well as meta/intertextual support
and you could say that what iām saying here is basically āa lot of the fun of doing character analysis is doing character analysisā but letās be real a lot of fandom character analysis is pretty heavily vibes-based. and i think thatās where i really chafe up against the traditional thought-terminating fandom attitude of like, everyoneās opinions hold equal weight and any interrogation of that is inherently hostile. because i think itās fascinating to dig into where others are coming from in terms of their views on characters or dynamics or whatever, especially when they differ significantly from more commonly expressed views, and part of that digging is asking people okay what parts of canon are you drawing from to support your opinion? what parts of canon are you disregarding or downplaying? how does this argument hold up in the light of how race, gender, class, ability, etc. operate both in the pieceās in-fiction and real world contexts?
