i made a post like this on my old account but i feel like it's worth saying again. i see so many dykes talking about wanting a 'cowboy' butch or a country butch but so many of y'all are unwilling to acknowledge that a lot of people who are really from rural areas also come from complicated backgrounds. poor education, poverty, or difficult relationships with homophobic/transphobic family. to want to love someone from this kind of background means you have to accept that they may not have had the same opportunities than you and that the whole cowboy thing is an extremely small part of coming from a rural community. this is purely based on my experiences dating around in a larger city after coming from a very small rural town and getting treated like shit because i was more than a one dimensional country dyke character. are you going to still love the cowboy/country dyke when they're a college dropout or have substance abuse issues or they're poor?
I'm gonna be more explicit. figure out how to still love those country dykes when they're fat and are missing teeth, and haven't read whatever theory you consider "essential" and frankly might not be able to. figure out how to love the high school dropouts. or fucking else.
