Waiting for an absolution ~

Early morning of April 15, 1912

A surreal scene, the ocean is scattered with debris, small boats and floating ice.

Captain Rostron has well-prepared his ship for a large scale rescue. 712 survivors, but almost 1,500 people are lost.

and the fact that it was a couple of holes the size of a piece of paper that did her in because it opened up too many compartments to flooding

and the heroes like Joseph Bell and his engineers, who gave their lives to keep the lights on as long as possible in the hopes of rescue

and that some of the richest men in the world refused to board the lifeboats so others would have a better chance at survival

and all the acts of heroism large and small that displayed the best of humanity in the worst of situations

and the things that give me hope to this day that no matter how bad things get, humanity can and will prevail
