Joke aside, one of the points of this AU is to highlight things their adult selves would (probably) never do. Their mental instability is more severe because they experienced trauma at an earlier age and didn’t have time to process it—especially after they decided to don their hero’s capes.

Snippet for chapter three:

They're cute pictures, they look happy together. There is a part of Tony that thought no one would buy it, him dating Captain America, but after seeing the pictures they look good together. Steve’s often trending, pictures of him with some woman, but Tony always sees right through it. Steve never looks like he’s on a date, the Captain America expression on and no hair out of place. In that one picture he looks like Steve, just a young man enjoying a walk through Central Park and not an American Icon.

“So, tomorrow everyone will think we’re dating,” Steve says and puts the StarkPad away. At first Tony thinks it’s something bad, but then he notices the smile playing around his lips, the glimmer in his eyes—it makes him look younger. His body might have been on the earth for ninety years, but his mind isn’t that old. He went through so much, he’s the leader of the Avengers, but underneath all that he’s just a kid from Brooklyn.

Tony feels honoured to see this side of Steve, to see him without a shield.
