I saw a reference from the movie Atonement and immediately thought that this scene could be perfect for Dramione AU.

Then you would have had:

Harry destroy the journal.

Dumbledore destroy the ring.

Ron destroy the locket.

Hermione destroy the cup.

Neville destroy the snake.

Voldermort destroy the piece in Harry.

Draco could have been the final piece. It was right there. He could have had his redemption in that moment where Harry saves him from the fire after he reveals that yes, he had known it was them in the manor and he saved them on purpose because he realized how fucking nuts Voldy and his father and Bella were, and how wrong they were. Or even he could have just done it out of instinct, showing some kind of hint at innate bravery and goodness, which could then bring clearance to his own internal struggle between where his loyalties lied. That could have been the perfect opportunity for the revelation, his opportunity to fight back and turn of the tide for his arch. It would have given better cause for his mother to be desperate to know if Draco is okay and lie for Harry. Then later he stands against Voldemort and stands behind Neville and Harry.
