Another late Valentine's day post. This is the first original retro themed poster I made for last year's Marinler zine. It was inspired by 50's/60's painted travel and tourism posters, and specifically influenced by a poster for Rome that featured Piazza Navona.

I wanted to make a 1950's-60's retro themed art with them for the Marinler zine (ended up making a bunch of them), so I kept practicing drawing their live action versions.

I watched SNW: Those Old Scientists a hundred times and took about a million screencaps of them making different faces. I then did some expression study of the live action versions where I tried to translate the exaggerated expressions of the animated characters on to the live action models.

I think one of the reasons I am able to maintain the consistency of the models is because I only ever used the SNW crossover as reference. Like, I could have easily looked up Newsome or Quaid on google to use their photos as references, but I wanted to keep it locked to the characters only. Because, as wild as it sounds, people look different out of character, and lighting, camera angle etc can change your face.

One Jerry O'Connell snuck in there because, well, we don't have a live action Ransom. Also, you'll notice they are all in a low opacity, because I don't need details, I just need basic shapes!
