Had to gather my headcanons all up, but yes!

Snotlout has always been close (see him going out of his way to want to buy gustav, immediately hanging out in Frozen, ect) with Gustav;

He was always on baby sitting duty (see snotlout with kids headcanons)

Gustav's older brother was Dogsbreath

Seeing as Gustav is a bit more... passionate (keeps sneaking into arena to "train dragons"), than other kids, Snotlout took a liking. Cue buying him and everything that goes down in rob/dob with them.

I imagine that Snotlout catches on to Gustav and Fanghook still being in kahoots before the others (he knows what one needs to care for a Nightmare, obviously) and IMMEDIATELY rats him out (see how the gang isn't surprised about fanghook in rtte, season 1, despite no mention of any extra training). Sadly, Hiccup's fine with (probably mire like tolerable of, seeing his views on rebellious nature after dob) it.

Doesn't stop Snotlout from giving him training tips, even if Gustav has suddenly stopped being endearing and is more annoying now (berserker island revolt episode).

Fanghook is a bit admiring of Snotlout, but moreso Hookfang. Isn't it amazing, that his human is one that brought down the old queen? And that his human is so sweet to him? And that his human is why Fanghook even has Gustav? He'll never truly be able to express his gratitude for the other nightmare inadvertently getting him his hatchling.
