Granted, all of these will have ace!snotlout but the actual acelout au will show the process of him learning his own sexual attraction (or lack thereof in this case) and it will be rather sad before it gets better. Same with the translout au and the Crack Ship au. They get sad before they get better.

They run into Dagur. Dagur knows him. But Snotlout don't know him.

Viggo is intrigued. Ryker doesn't trust it. Tells Snotlout to stay away from Dagur, that he's deranged and dangerous.

Dagur sees an opportunity to turn Snotlout against Hiccup. Finds a way to get near him, and says that they never came for him, that everyone celebrated his death.

Snotlout knows Dagur is lying the moment he hears "Hiccup", remembering Hiccup screaming his name as he fell, but lets him say his piece. Viggo taught him to not show all his cards, after all, and he taught him well.

And then lies out his ass, saying "I think maybe you got the wrong guy. My name is Snotlout, yes, but I am a Grimborn, and I Hunt Dragons like my brothers. 8)"

Ryker decides his new pain in the ass baby brother isn't so bad after all.

Dagur is successfully gaslit into believing there's another Snotlout that is Hiccup's cousin that actually died.

Snotlout sneaks out a letter to Berk.

Viggo sees him doing it, but lets him.

AU where Snotlout falls during the fight with the Red Death and nobody can find him.

He's dead.

Except he's not.

Hookfang is still with him - nobody can find Hookfang either, or maybe don't even look for him.

Ryker and Viggo find Snotlout and take him in.

Except there's a dragon he comes with and Ryker is pissed. Viggo is intrigued.

Snotlout just doesn't remember gods damned shit about what happened or where he came from. He knows his name is Snotlout though!

And that the dragon is his, and his cousin gave it to him. That's all he knows

Cue Shenanigans of Snotlout being a Dragon Hunter bc he was rescued by these 2 assholes.

So he's kind of vaguely helping him, but mostly because they saved him and helped him even though they didn't have to and yeah, Viggo said he didnt owe them, and Ryker told him he could leave if he didn't like what they were doing so much, but...

Where else is he supposed to go? Besides, Ryker is kinda cool beyond the whole Dragon Hunting thing, and Viggo is so smart and reminds him of... someone. He isn't sure who it is, but he was close to them, and Viggo reminds him of that person.

So he stays and he just. Helps. And a ometimes gets into fights with them because hunting dragons isn't right, he knows that, but he can't stop them but he can let the dragons go, right?

He's the ornery pain in the ass baby brother the Grimborns didn't ask for but got anyways by rescuing him.

Ryker has learned his lesson.

No more rescuing dying kids.

Small Part 2 to This

Hiccup realistically knows his cousin's future in the military. It's all their dads talked about when they were kids.

It's just that Hiccup never thought it would happen. Snotlout was hit by lightning multiple times. He (probably) has (maybe mild) brain damage. He's got some problems hearing. He LOOKS like he was hit by lightning.

And when they were 15, it seemed like Snotlout had changed his mind.

And to be fair, Snotlout had.

It's just that, he feels like he doesn't have a choice.

So at eighteen, Snotlout quietly asks Hiccup to go with him while he does something.

Hiccup agrees, thinking grocery run or something.

He stares at the recruiter's office in horror.

He drags Snotlout out with a "I need to talk to him sorry!"

He put it off for a day, but he's freaking out.

He and Snotlout fight.

He gets it put off for another day. And again.

And again.

Stoick gets involved.

Hiccup shouts that Snotlout doesn't want to go, otherwise he'd have ignored Hiccup that first day, and signed up anyways.

The others don't know. Snotlout asked him to not say.

So Hiccup has to deal with this alone.

His cousin, someone who managed to become like a brother to him, a real brother, not whatever Dagur is, is being pushed to do this, and Hiccup's own father is telling him to drop it?

He goes to Gobber.

Everyone's like College for them, yeah!!!

But Snotlout... wouldn't.

His dad was a warrior, so he's clearly expected to be one too. Even in Race to the Edge, it's clear his dad puts pressure on him and all, so...

18? He wouldn't really follow his friends to college, even if he wanted to.

He'd go military. Like his dad. Grandfather. Prolly his mom too. Great grandparents.

It's a legacy thing and trust me breaking that mold is scary and hard.

So like. Snotlout would be a military kid that joins the military, I bet.
