Back when prediction markets were just a matter of speculation, did Yudkowsky, Hanson and pals ever actually have serious rejoinders for the "it will cause wild insider trading and event rigging" problem?

I think the idea was that prediction markets would exist within some sort of sensible regulatory regime rather than being enabled by a combination of judicial accident and a move to generally dismantle the rule of law.

So the mechanisms that prevent the insider trading of regular securities would be brought to bear on the problem.

when I first went to college I had only rarely ever eaten spinach and so when I went to the dining hall on the first day I tried a spinach salad and then for the next couple of months I had a big bowl of spinach salad with lunch and dinner every day, I guess because I was deficient in some nutrient in the spinach

and I think that something like this happens to many people when they join some new religion and they go in really hard on certain aspects that they were missing before. sometimes it's the visible externals because often that stuff is easier than developing your inner spiritual life. eventually they mature and chill out and find a sustainable level of practice/engagement

one often sees the worst of it online because the people who post the most tend to be the loneliest and least connected to an irl faith community so they get pica about it
