Disney is doing crazy things in the japanese mobile game sphere rn
you may be familiar with disney twisted wonderland, the gacha game in which various disney villains are used as direct inspiration for handsome anime boys. well that game was so successful that disney is trying to do it again but this time they're just animeboyifying whatever
here's mickey, goofy, donald, and chip & dale. yeah they turned mickey & friends into anime boys. they're an idol unit or something. they're technically not anime boy versions of the source characters, they have different names. mickey's guy is "Neo Michel". not michael, michel, like he's french. chip & dale are "Ruska Moncrief" and "Ranka Monk", they have different last names, they're not brothers anymore so that they can be yaoibait instead, anyways this post isn't actually about these guys I'm just setting the stage for the actual humanizations I wanted to show you
They also did monsters inc. And. Well it's obvious from the designs who mike and sully are. but you will also notice. the blonde one on the left. with glasses. monsters inc is kind of famously about just the two guys so they didn't really have a lot of other non-villain characters to take anime boys inspiration from, I guess, so, well,
Yeah it's her. they made an anime boy version of the mean receptionist slug. her name is roz btw, as all of boygachagame twitter has become extremely aware of in the past 3 days as we speculated prior to the release of the full image who tf the third guy was. the anime boy's name is "noah slugger". at this point no parody of the types of things gacha games will make gijinkas of will ever be able to live up to what disney is officially spending their own real money on designing
Horses, WWII battleships = cute anime girls
Monsters Inc. characters = cute anime boys
There’s a deep pattern here which gets at the very heart of Gender, but I am not smart enough to see it.
Ave tumblrinae, nos torreturi vos salutant

Only explaining the error as a "note to future self" bc i enjoyed figuring it out --
Copying from "morituri" led you astray because the verb morior is deponent and therefore weird. The future active participle of torreō is "tostūri" (inflected plural and masculine to match "moritūri" -- it's the standard 1st/2nd declension -us/-a/-um adjective paradigm (and since I'm copying from a source that keeps the macrons its worth noting that "moritūrus" has one)).
it was close enough for Whittaker's Words to figure out which verb you meant though!
Also i enjoy the semantic range Wiktionary gives for torrēo:
are you baking the cake the perfect amount or burning it? Same verb either way :P
It's wild to me that there are people who are adamantly against homeschooling because parents aren't certified teachers or have degrees in teaching when there are teachers on TikTok telling people that students are performing several grades below where they're supposed to be.
Clearly doesn't matter if the person is trained or not to teach, apparently. Public schools are not really teaching kids.
Meanwhile, my brother is homeschooling his kids, matching their level of each subject to where they're at, and in many subjects, they're ahead of their peers. In others, they're on par to what their grade would be.
My brother does not have a teaching degree.
For everything that is held against homeschooling, it can also be held against public schooling.
So the question is, why is it unacceptable in homeschooling -most of the time to the point of removing it as an option or putting more safeguards against it- yet acceptable en masse in public school?
Why does public school get to remain the default schooling method when it faces the same issues homeschooling does with fewer safeguards and on a larger scale?
Not to go all tin foil hat but it is because public schooling is government schooling, and quit frankly the government does not actually want people to be educated in all reality. For if enough people were educated and knew things like economics or politics, they'd probably revolt and burn it all down.
I'm not going to list all the things wrong with public education or else I'd be here all day, but in all essence, public school is not about education, it's about indoctrination. It pushes kids to believe certain things, to reject others and then it pushes them towards "higher education" in which 90% of them will take out loans and be in crippling debt due to the interest rates on said loans (the only loan you can't get away from by filing for bankruptcy)
although the stigma against homeschooling did give us one of the greatest scenes in movie history
It is literally never, ever, an agentic conspiracy to make people stupid.
It is literally never, ever an agentic trick to pretend to be incompetent.
We can see thousands and thousands of educators talk to each other about their jobs. We can see every single step of the process that results in this system. There are no secret orders. There is no covert agenda. We can see who makes the curricula and why and how. They are not receiving secret orders.
It is literally never, ever an agentic trick to pretend to be incompetent. It is always actual incompetence.
Like try to think about their perspective.
"We have to intentionally keep the people stupid because if they knew the truth they'd rise up against us" requires the people in charge to know that their own beliefs are false. It is trivially observable that they think their beliefs are true. They would want people to be educated because they, just like you, think that "educated" means "agrees with me" and think anyone who does not agree with them has been misled. They're not able to accomplish their goal because they're bad at their jobs.

Can’t believe FMA is 25 years old today 🤯
When I first got into the series in 2005, I was 14 (I got vol. 1 for my birthday).
I had no idea just how much of an impact it would have on me and how important FMA would become for me. 🤧
And it's grown so massive, what with 27 volumes of the manga, 5 art books, 2 anime series, 2 movies, 3 live action movies, 12 official video games and 6 light novels!
And now I have the opportunity to interact live with Edward's English VA, Vic Mignogna, which is really fucking awesome to me! 😭🙌🏻

nahautl -> english words are fascinating in part because of the inconsistency of english product. imagine a world where avocado, chocolate, coyote, tomato, and axolotl all rhyme
The Nahuatl originals of these words are ahuacatl, chocolatl (or possibly cacahuatl), coyotl, tomatl, and axolotl. -tl is a grammatical ending in Nahuatl, which is why it shows up in so many words; and the stem vowels are different for at least some of these words, so they wouldn't've all rhymed in Nahuatl either.
“When we were kids, the Phonics Wizard came to our town to show off how the letter E can change the sounds of vowels. He turned a can into a cane, a pin into a pine. This one kid had a cap and he changed it into a cape, that kind of thing.
“And we loved it, we were all having a great time, but then he saw my sister and I, and he just got this - this look in his eyes, and then-”
She hesitated, worrying the coarse material between her fingers. “Things got pretty bad after that,” she muttered. “I know it’s silly, but I try to keep - her - comfortable. We don’t know if she can still hear us, or see us, or if she’s even still in here, but I like to think she is. I talk to her when I can, I leave music on when I’m out of the house. I tried to convince my parents to bring her with us when we went to Disneyland, but they didn’t - didn’t really take that well.”
After a moment, she put the ball of twine back onto its pillow. “Anyways. They tried to arrest the Phonics Wizard, but he had a plan in case something went wrong and he turned it into a plane and flew away.”

Unironically I think this meme is really good for explaining why maths formalisms and notation are so valuable, even when they seem cumbersome/convoluted. It's an incredibly precise way to describe the interaction of a lot of related-but-meaningfully-distinct concepts, and this is a great showcase of that, thank you Lynn Chordbug you're the best.

A new streaming series in the Ghost in the Shell franchise, known as The Ghost in the Shell, has been released, and is now available on Amazon Prime Video (as of July 7).
While video adaptations of Shirow Masamune's acclaimed 1989 manga Ghost in the Shell have tended to be more cold and philosophical (2002's Standalone Complex, for example, concerned a wave of copycat crimes without an original), judging from the first episode, this series sticks a lot closer to the manga – it's warmer, funnier, more cartoonish, and the characters are less competent – while being no less action-packed.
How is the animation quality? If you sent this episode back in time to 2003 and told me it came from the year 2026, I could believe you; it stacks up favorably against Standalone Complex, which IGN described as "the most expensive season of TV anime ever produced at the time." It's good enough that I'm tempted to look for other series by this same studio.
How is the dub? Not bad. The music? Better than 2013's ARISE. Neither quite live up to the standard set by Standalone Complex, but both the dub and the score on that show were legendary, so few things do.
How is the decision to stick closer to the manga? Time will tell (only one episode is out so far), but it's probably the right call. The presence of tube televisions is reminiscent of Netflix's 2024 reboot of Ranma ½, choosing to present a classic manga as of a time period.
I look forward to watching the entire season.
