I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.

Samira had always insisted she hated parties. She didn't need some big party to talk about her accomplishements. Still her friends at PTMC had talked her into it said she deserved to be celebrated. Her mother had agreed to come even sent a hotel confirmation as solid proof. It had her so happy she was buzzing. She'd gotten up early to get ready and put out decorations. She'd even made a bunch of food whatever she needed to make this day perfect.

Then the party started and... crickets. Samira had really tried to ignore the fact her mother wasn't there, to enjoy herself. Eventually she'd sent one text and then another. At some point she'd left the party all together. Sending her mother text after text. How was the drive? Did hotel check in go okay? Are you okay? Are you coming? Mom I'm starting to get worried.

Samira is in a corner of the room farthest away from the party. She's staring at the hotel confirmation wondering if she should text again. She hears the door open and quickly wipes away her tears. "Sorry- I'll be right out. Just give me a sec." She calls out, not knowing who had come to find her.

jack had been dragged to the baby shower for some extra support for samira. he knew she would need it, as did lena and dana who both planned her baby shower since samira's mother lived out of state. plus baby showers now started to involve both men and women so jack was expected to participate. since living with her, he knew her relationship with her mother was complicated and when her mom confirmed that she was going to be here he'd seen her face light up, more than it had since the start of the pregnancy.

he'd been watching her as the party started, seeing that she was unable to enjoy the party that was for her. he's watching her before she walks out of the shower, watching everyone enjoying the games. he gave her a few minutes before he goes to check on her.

"it was funny first few times, but now it's just annoying." andrea's expression softened almost instantly the second she saw the baby's face tucked against jack's shoulder, asleep so deeply she barely stirred despite the noise around them. "she can be our emotional support baby," she murmured, voice dropping instinctively quieter like she didn’t want to risk waking her either. a faint smile pulled at her mouth as her eyes flicked back up to him, "and you're definitely not putting her down anytime soon, huh ? "
