there plan is to steal lord widogast’s money by having jester impersonate baroness mardun, who’s come to marry him. and thus there’s a lot of weird love square nonsense w/ jester and fjord and molly and caleb as they navigate real feelings and a whole con. 

except caleb isn’t actually nobility. .he and nott were trying to steal the money for themselves, but when beau caught them caleb pretended he was actually the heir and now he’s stuck running this dead dude’s castle and pretending to be nobility and waiting for this monk to leave him alone so he and nott can take the money and run. caleb knows that jester isn’t mardun and is using them for his own plans.
