A then-unemployed thirty-something Bill Geerhart wrote letters to some of America’s most powerful/infamous figures during the late 90’s, posing as a 10 year-old boy named Billy. These are the letters Bill wrote to serial killer Richard Ramirez, and Ramirez’s response to them.

Nick (or Abel) Nevarez was one of Richard’s good friends. On October 7th 1980, Richard was in the backseat of a van, driven by another friend, when it crashed into a fence. Nevarez got impaled by a pole that went right through him and killed him. Richard saw the whole thing.

Richard Ramirez’s siblings were frequent drug users, and he would soon follow in their footsteps, smoking pot steadily from the time he was ten. At the age of 13, after witnessing Mike shoot his wife, he began experimenting with hallucinogens such as LSD, magic mushrooms, and peyote. High, he’d go out to the desert at night and hunt, imagining that he was in touch with Satan. The first year he moved to L.A., Richard became addicted to cocaine, or as he liked to call it, ‘’the devil’s dandruff’’. When author Philip Carlo asked Richard what he would compare the sense of pleasure cocaine gave him to, he replied, ‘’There is nothing…to me, anyway, that comes near it.’’ Richard described the powdered drug as an intense euphoric heat, a rush, a light tingling that goes to the brain. 

As he mentioned in one of his letters - he had no friends in prison. except partners like Lawrence Bittaker in his business selling pornography to other inmates. When he first came to the yard he was attacked. As he came back from the hospital, he came back to the yard and this time he got stabbed. Other prisoners used to threaten him. Richie was paranoid about his own safety, that's why he barely leaves his cell except visits🥴
