Intriguing list, although it would be interesting to know who the 65 critics were whose inputs resulted in this ranking. Cather, Wharton, Dreiser, Anderson, Lewis and Wilder are all very well, but is it time for a resurgence of interest in James Branch Cabell, Glenway Wescott, and Joseph Hergesheimer, not to mention Zona Gale? And what about Fitzgerald? Is he, like Hemingway, given a lowly rank because he was still perceived to be a short story writer in 1929?
