Newmann Headcanons

Hermann confesses to Liwen that he loves Newton and he assures her that Newt is a good man. Liwen touches his arm kindly and they share a look of understanding before landing at the Shatterdome. Hermann stares out the window trying not to cry.

Okay, so we know Hermann calls Newt a Kaiju Grrroupie. What would Newt’s common nicknames for Hermann be?

Newt and Hermann both had really rough childhoods (both in their own respective ways). So, the night after their drift they stay up late talking through what each of them saw and helping each other cope through the wave of emotions that hits them. (Would love to hear your opinions/hc!)

Hermann is secretly very cuddly.

Newt has like. The worst ADHD.

When the war is over, Newt is still really bad about sleep, like... he doesn't need to work around the clock anymore, but there's a part of his brain that's hardwired to believe that something bad will happen if he sleeps-- it's just that now, instead of 'you won't get your work done in time', it's 'vague disaster, man, idk', and it takes him some time to recognize it as a form of intrusive thought, and it would be hell if it wasn't for Hermann, bc Hermann can get Newt to sleep.

Newt starts a dedicated gym routine after the apocalypse is cancelled (though he needs Hermann to make sure he actually follows a schedule properly), because he doesn't have giant sample tanks and such to haul around anymore and wants to stay in shape-- namely, wants to stay in good enough shape into old age so that any time Hermann needs any kind of physical help in the future, he'll be able to rise to the occasion, even if they're eighty and Hermann is in and out of a wheelchair all the time.

Newt and Hermann hold hands all the time after drifting, like, they don't think about it, it just happens. Every conversation they have about the repairing and changing of their relationship and the start of their romance they spend holding hands, and it just feels right. Whenever they each have a free hand, they sort of gravitate to each other and they just hold hands without really paying any attention beyond enjoying the comfort/closeness, but (tbc)

Newt letting Hermann fuss over him when he bangs himself up doing everyday things just because he's a high-speed human disaster. Like he's used to ignoring it (or dealing with it quickly and moving on, if it's serious enough/might contaminate his lab/kitchen work), brushes off a lot of stubbed toes and barked shins and hands injured just because he's accidentally flung his arm out and hit a wall. But Hermann LIKES to take care of him and he just eats it up.

In the lab, Hermann is very 'a place for everything and everything in its place' and Newt's side looks like a war zone, but Newt is actually a very capable housekeeper when it comes to his living space-- he might drop his clothes on the floor when falling into bed at night, but he won't let messes accumulate and he likes things to be at least kind of neat/tidy so that the things he has on display register instead of being lost in the visual 'noise'.
