The Newlywed House Project

I wanted to add a before picture of the bathroom.  It is crazy how much nicer it looks with subway tile and new paint!  We have a little bit of baseboard trim to do, but then the bathroom will be 100% done. It’s so exciting to almost have one room 100% completed.

We’ve been working on the kitchen.  We have finally figured out that weird corner where the stairs are located.  We have an overhead microwave; which really opened up counter space!  We have a new stove that has a functionally oven!  We have ordered countertops, and are just waiting for the installation date!  I am so excited about our kitchen!!

We bought all the windows for the upper floor (minus the dinning room since I need to think about it a little more).  We installed the last living room window and kitchen window.  The one in the living room we added a little fun by using the square wood blocks in each corner.  We are planning on doing that in the bedrooms and on the trim around the front door. It’s so nice to have noise canceling windows that actually open!

We have painted the bedroom, dining room, and living room!  The dinning room is the same paint color as the living room (slightly off white).  The bedroom is a light blue gray color.  It’s crazy how much paint can change a room!

We have drywall textured the bedroom, office, dinning room, living room, and bathroom.  Next step is to paint!

Here is the second post on our refinished hardwood floors. The top pictures are the living room, the middle is the dinning room, and the last is the vent area between the living room and dinning room.  we are super excited about the floors.  They turned out SOO great!!

We just had our hardwood floor refinished!  They look AMAZING!!  This is a two part post since I can’t put all my before and after pictures in one post.  Silly picture limit.  The top picture is the office, the middle is where we removed that closet, and the bottom is the bedroom.

A couple new things have happened.  We have started re-wiring the electrical into a new panel.  The furnace pipe that went up by the stairs we were able to shrink to a 4inch double insulated pipe.  We also added a door down to the basement.

The kitchen is finally coming along.  We got the tile down and most of the cabinets up!  In addition to getting the cabinets up we reclaimed the office!  The net steps in the kitchen at to finish the cabinets and get the counter top.  I am really thinking about doing soapstone counters.

Windows!  We have a handful of new windows installed.  The most impressive was the big window in the living room.  We found it on sale at Lowes and it was too close to the dimensions to pass up.  It’s a bit shorter on the sides and about  seven inches taller than the old window.  However, the noise is really cut down and we don't have the condensation that we did on the old one.  All the small windows in the basement are new as well as one of the kitchen windows.

So we got around to painting the house!  We did a bit of trim work, but still have some more to do on the sides and the back of the house.  I really like the new house numbers that we picked out too.

We took some walls down. It really opens up the kitchen, living room, and dinning room.  

Sorry for not posting recently.  A lot has been going on.  We now have fully functional plumbing (sinks, toilet, and shower)!  We have finished tiling the bathroom.  We installed a new front door!  The house looks so much better.  We also started taking the wall down between the kitchen and first bedroom. This weekend we are going to work on painting the outside of the house.  We are going with the top paint color!

We have tile in the bathroom now!  I set the tile and grouted it with the assistance of my dad.  The grout we used was supposed to be for the kitchen tile (there is still plenty for the kitchen when the time comes), but I forgot until we had put a little grout down.  Not what I would have originally chosen, but it doesn’t look horrible.  We talked with out appraiser and needed to have the toilet and sinks functioning before they will come out.  So yesterday we go those all going.  It is super exciting to get a sneak peak at how it will all look once it is done.

Over the weekend we got rid of all the tree branches we had cut down.  Instead of taking up space in our backyard they are now being turned into mulch!  we also began painting the jungle room.  It looks SO much better now!  We also had to replace the trim piece in the large window.  A little paint on it and you’ll never know it is new.  We also took down more drywall in the kitchen and began planning out the electrical.  

I just wanted to share a picture of the completed plumbing!  The first picture is of the old terrible plumbing and the second the wonderful new plumbing!  Yesterday day my dad put in our new back door.  I’m super excited about it!  It was a bit more of a process than any of us anticipated. The framing for the door is half wood and half cinderblock.  The frame on the door was actually a tiny bit too big and had to be cut down.  After a lot of measuring, sanding, and drilling it  is finally in.  We just need to get some trim and paint and it will be spectacular!  We also our friends come over and help.  They helped G scrape the peeling paint on the siding.  The house looks a bit ugly after that, but once it is primed you won’t be able to tell.

A couple things have happened this past week and weekend.  First, we got the bathtub in and the plumbing completed!  We are super excited about both of those items being accomplished.  Next, the siding came in on Friday.  G spent yesterday fixing the siding, priming it, and then power washing the house.  In the jungle room there was that gross black stuff in the corner.  I was actually able to clean it off but, that corner still needs some love.  The black stuff ( I think it was some kind of grease) was just covering up really scratched up floor boards.  I have a few more things to add later this weekend!
